it had almost been a year officially since the death of cameron boyce. imogen had taken his death the hardest. no longer performing only writing and producing. having helped out with the soundtrack for the descendants movies she was asked to help with the new zombies movie.
imogen was sitting in the studio at blue records, working on a new song with david. he reached out to her asking if she'd want to help him produce a new track. they had been working for around two weeks on the song "skin and bones"
"what if we put in some echo's behind the claps here and here?" the girl was clad in sweatpants and a large hoodie sitting by their computer.
they played around with different ideas and soon came up with a final product. david had left the studio, imogen had around an hour before she had to work on the zombies track with them.
sighing she stood up and set record in the booth. just because she had stopped performing didn't mean she stopped singing.
putting the headphones on she started humming the tune for her latest song, "born to die"
"oh my heart it breaks every step that i take, but i'm hoping at the gates. they'll tell me that you're mine." with her back turned to the glass she hadn't heard the sound of the door open.
a man followed by two girls and a boy immediately quieted as they heard the sound of imogen singing.
meg donnelly had immediately recognized imogen, being a fan of her music before she stopped performing.
shocked she whispered to milo, "no way, that's imogen boyce. I didn't know we'd be working with her. she's an amazing writer."
milo's eyes widened, he had heard of her before but never knew her. the group had sat down on the couch and chairs when another person walked in.
"sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough. i don't know why. keep making me laugh. let's go get high. the road is long we carry on."
phoebe bridgers had stopped by blue records to check in on her friend who would soon have to face her worst fear, the anniversary of cameron's death. imogen had been acting weird in her eyes.
"are you guys part of zombies?" her question snapped milo out of his trance. imogen's voice was captivating.
"uh yeah," milo was still intrigued by imogen and phoebe smirked.
"well i see you guys have kinda met mo. just word of advice don't bring up her brother." the group nodded but milo was still confused.
not confident he asked meg, "who's her brother?"
meg shook her head, "cameron boyce, he died about a year ago. imogen hasn't performed or released any music since then."
milo was once again surprised. he didn't know cameron had a sister. he had met the boy once at a dance conference and thought it was terrible that he died so young.
"try to have fun in the meantime, come take a walk on the wild side. let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain. you like your girls insane, so choose your words this is the last time. cause you and i, we were born to die."
imogen had finished her song and turned around in the booth and froze at the sight of four people clapping.
like a deer in headlights she walked out, "uh hi, im imogen. you guys are here for zombies right?" she shook hands with the group and gave phoebe a much needed hug.
"yeah hi, i'm meg. i'm a huge fan of your work you're so insanely talented." the blonde was bubbly when she introduced herself.
"thank you, that means a lot." imogen was timid as she always is around other people. especially when they just heard her sing.
"hi, i'm milo. it's nice to meet you." he stood to his full height and towered over the petite brunette. she felt tiny compared to milo. normally bigger men scared her and made her nervous but something about the one in front of her made her feel calm. safe almost.
next to introduce themselves was chandler, "hi i'm chandler, it's so nice to finally meet you."
imogen smiled, "well now that i know everyone how about we sit down and discuss, your guys director and writers sent me over what kind of music they want and the vibe."
the group agreed and proceeded to sit down and discuss for around the next hour.
"okay so they want a reprise of your guys song someday. since we already have the lyrics do you guys think you could come to my studio next monday so i can get the music ready?"
milo nodded, "i can be there,"
meg spoke up, "i won't be able to on monday but we could record separately. we've done that before."
the brunette nodded writing something down in her journal. "okay sounds good once we've got someday finished i can start on the lyrics for some of the other songs."
trying to keep it short and sweet she gave them all her phone number and her address seeing as blue records was booked out so they needed to use her home studio. which the girl preferred being in the safety of her home.
the group smiled and said goodbye to phoebe and imogen.
when the door clicked shut phoebe immediate spoke her concerns, "mo, are you sure about monday? that's only a day after."
imogen sighed, "i'll be fine, plus the studio is booked the rest of today and i'm flying out to see sofia and the purple hearts premier this weekend, they need these songs done soon so kinda have to do monday."
monday was july seventh, the day after cameron's one year anniversary. one full year without her brother. she only could hope that she wouldn't crack during their session.
