When I woke the next day I felt as though a sense of dread overcame me. Today was the day that Mary and I attend the new school. I'm not particularly too excited for a school of possibly too-good-for-you pampered kids. Though as soon as I walk out of this room I'll have to put a smile on and pretend I'm okay with this. It's not dad's fault, and I did encourage him to cave in. I mean, they were stressing him to the point that he'd get sick often.
My alarm blared again and I swiped the little circle down to turn it off. I rolled out of bed and went to my closet where my new school uniform hung neatly wrapped in the plastic from yesterday. I pulled it out of the closet and laid it on the bed. I went to my bathroom and showered quickly before stepping back out into my room where I grabbed clean undergarments and proceeded to get dressed for the day. Once dressed I went to the kitchen where only dad stood with a cup of coffee.
"I thought you'd be in the office." I said in a whisper as I grabbed a slice of toast off the counter and bit into it.
"They haven't emerged from their rooms yet. So I was free to leave and get some coffee." Dad said jokingly.
I smiled at him, "Good. I think you shouldn't always lock yourself in the office. I'll miss you too much."
"Okay. Okay." He said patting my head, "I'll come out of the study more often.
I smiled bigger, "Thank you dad."
"MOOOOOM!!!!" Mary's voice screeched echoing through the whole house making most of the staff including Nelson and Jake to cover their ears.
I cringed at her voice covering my own.
"What's wrong?" Samantha's equally screechy voice bounded through the house.
"This uniform is ugly and I don't want to be caught dead wearing it!" Mary complained.
"I'll talk to your father" Samantha said as she rounded the corner.
"Before you even say another word, she IS wearing that uniform especially since you and Mary begged me to send them to this school"
"Dad says you have to wear it and that's final!" Samantha yelled up the stairs.
"Did you have to do that from in here..?" I mumbled under my breath.
"What did you say?" Samantha snapped.
"Nothing. We're going to be late if she doesn't hurry up." I said.
"Nelson can take you. I'll have Jake take Mary."
I nodded kissing dad on the cheek, "By daddy. Thank you."
"You're welcome," He smiled.
I left with Nelson in tow. When we neared the new car I looked at him and shook my head, "Dad only got the one car. You can let Mary ride in this one to school. Let's take our usual one."
"Are you sure, Miss Emmie? Mr. O'Neil wouldn't be happy if you get picked on because of the car." Nelson asked.
I nodded, "I can deal with bullies at school. If Mary doesn't get the good car, I won't be able to deal with her. I live with her and can't get away from her when I want to by simply leaving."
He nodded and went to our usual city car and opened the door from me. I didn't say anything since he doesn't do this often and climbed in allowing him to shut the door and get in the driver seat to drive off. The drive itself was silent as he drove through the winding streets of our neighborhood, through the city and soon through winding streets up a private drive lined with trees. I watched as the trees blurred past us through the window until my attention was caught by a big building with an all glass front entrance. The entrance had sliding doors and two security guys stationed at the front. A lot of kids, dressed in the same uniform style as me bounded into the building laughing and smiling. Nelson stopped the car and climbed out coming to open my door. I got out and noticed immediately all the stares I was getting from everyone. Nelson thankfully drove off and I found myself walking into the school. My first task is to find somewhere to hide. Frowning I pulled my schedule out of my pocket and the map that Nelson printed off for me and found my first class of the day and went straight there. Hopefully, no kids were around in the classroom. With my head down, I grabbed the straps of my bag and trekked through the halls doing my best to steer clear of any students in my path. That was until I bumped into someone's hard chest. There were many gasps all around as I heard the crinkling of a water bottle being squished seconds before the water shot out and got both me and the person I bumped into wet. I looked up to see a boy who had semi-spikey black hair and blue eyes. His eyes were fixated on me and seemed to be burning a hole in me. Behind him were three other boys and all of them were not dressed in the typical school uniform. Their parents must contribute a lot of money to the school if they can get away with it. There was a boy with semi-long brown hair with a red tint to it and stood with his mouth ticked up in a smirk, he wore a white sweater and black jeans. Another had long black hair that was braided into two and he wore a necklace that was tucked into his black t-shirt that seemed to have blended into his matching black jeans. The third boy was dressed in a white button-up and navy blue jeans. His hair was a short, tousled blond mess. He too had blue eyes that seemed to be a bit green too. He and the boy with the long braided hair had raised eyebrows with their mouths agape. My eyes focused on the man in front of me again and I noticed his white t-shirt and blue jeans were wet from the water and sticking to him.
"I-I'm so sorry.." I mumbled.
"Sorry? What exactly is your sorry going to do?" The boy in front of me spoke, "Dry my clothes?"
"N-no, but I didn't do it on purpose."
"Who are you?" He demanded, "I've not seen you before."
"E-Emerie..." I whispered, "I'm knew"
"You're going to get me a new shirt." He demanded
"For what? It's just water.. besides, all I have is a PE shirt." I looked him up and down, "I don't think it'll fit you either." I said then ran off up the stairs to my class.
"You're going to regret ever being born girl!" He shouted.
