Franny sighed, closing their apartment door behind her. The apartment was nothing more than a small living room, an old kitchen with one bedroom and one bath. The girl's lived like real college students sharing their one bedroom. A twin bed pushed against each side of the room.
Franny hated that she was onto her master's program while still living like she was a freshman.
Beth's father offered to pay for the girls' apartment but with that came an overbearing father that would monitor their every move. Being independent allowed them the privacy they desperately needed.
"Hey you" Beth mumbled as she shoved a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth.
Beth sat on their loveseat sofa as she watched an Italian romance movie. The screen displaying a dark haired man taking a thicker woman with short curly black hair into his arms.
Franny felt a yearning inside of her as she watched the small screen. Taking off her worn down flats and putting them on their shoe rack.
She walked over to their kitchen, feeling the plush carpet of their living room turn into a cool tile.
She opened up their fridge, happy to see Beth hadn't finished off their last bottle of Moscato.
"Thanks again for earlier today" Beth called out, not taking her eyes off of the screen.
The Italian man spoke fluently as he professed his love to the woman. Beth watched with the same yearning feeling brewing inside of her.
"It's not a problem" Franny softly said, pouring herself a glass of wine.
She looked at the side of Beth's face. Knowing she had to tell her about today but feeling reluctant. Not wanting to deal with the dramatics.
She took in a deep breath readying herself for the semantics that were about to unfold.
"I need you to run things for a little tomorrow night" Franny innocently said, taking a sip of her wine.
"Kay, why?" Beth asked, licking ice cream off of a spoon.
Franny sighed, taking another sip of her wine as she leaned against the countertop.
"Ummm...I have a date" she said.
"What the fuck?" Beth coughed, choking on her ice cream.
Franny rolled her eyes, taking the last swig of her wine. Beth turned to face her with a bewildered expression.
"You're joking" Beth flatly said.
"I am not joking" Franny replied, taking the chilled bottle of wine out from the fridge.
"With who!?" Beth exclaimed.
"A man" Franny casually said, shrugging her shoulders.
She poured herself the last bit of wine, content with only having two glasses tonight. She could already feel her shoulders relaxing as the alcohol soothed her.
Though, Beth was starting to give her a headache.
"Okay, well pull out your phone, show me him!" Beth demanded, shooting up from the couch.
Beth leaned against the other side of the countertop.
"I don't have a picture of him" Franny quietly said.
"What's his socials?" Beth said, whipping out her phone as she readily prepared to search every aspect of who this man was.
"I...don't know" she said, realizing just how little she knew about Gustavo.
