Urvi decided it was time to step away from the dance society for a while. As much as she loved dancing, it had become a source of distraction, especially when it came to Samarth. The feelings she had been trying to suppress for so long were starting to surface again, and with the end-semester exams looming, she knew she had to refocus. She threw herself into her studies, determined to ace her exams and prove to herself that she could overcome any obstacle, emotional or otherwise.
For the next two to three months, Urvi's life revolved around attending classes, studying notes, and spending time with Srishti. She set a strict routine for herself, waking up early, attending every lecture, and spending hours in studying. Her dedication paid off—she felt more prepared than ever as the exams approached.
During this period, Urvi found that she had completely forgotten about Samarth. The intense emotions she once felt had faded into the background, replaced by her determination to do well in her exams. The dance society and everything associated with it took a backseat as she concentrated solely on her studies. Even Srishti noticed the change in her friend, remarking more than once on how focused Urvi had become. Urvi would just smile, knowing that this focus was her way of coping, of moving past something that had once held such power over her.
The exams came and went in a blur of late-night study sessions and early morning cram sessions. When they finally ended, Urvi felt a massive weight lift off her shoulders. The sense of accomplishment was palpable—she had given it her all, and now she could finally relax. The college announced a month-long break before the next semester would begin, and Urvi welcomed the time off. She spent her days catching up on sleep, hanging out with Srishti, and indulging in the simple pleasures she had missed during her intense study period.
As the days passed, she found herself confronting an unexpected realization: she wasn't thinking about Samarth anymore. The boy who had once consumed her thoughts had become a distant memory, with that realization came a different kind of loneliness. With the pressure of exams gone, Urvi began to feel the weight of solitude. She missed the feeling of being excited about someone, the thrill of a crush, the hope for something more. A part of her longed for love—a real, lasting kind of love—but she was all too aware of the reality of her generation, where relationships often felt fleeting and insubstantial. She found herself vacillating between holding onto the idea of love and letting it go, torn between the desire for something deep and meaningful and the skepticism born from her past experiences.
One day, as she and Srishti were walking across campus and Srishti's voice interrupted her thoughts. "Hey, I heard that the dance society might be going to another city for a fest. Do you want to join?" The question caught Urvi off guard. She hadn't danced in months, hadn't even thought about it much since the exams started. But something inside her stirred at the thought of returning to dance, of feeling that rush of adrenaline and creativity again. Without overthinking it, she found herself saying, "Yes, of course! I'd love to join."
But as soon as the words left her mouth, doubt crept in. She hadn't practiced in a while—what if she wasn't good enough anymore? And what if the coordinator didn't agree to take her back after such a long break? Surprisingly, she realized that she wasn't thinking about Samarth at all. The decision to return to dance felt like her own, untainted by any old crushes or lingering emotions.
As they ahead towards Dance room, Urvi's anxiety began to build. As they arrived, and Urvi found herself back in the familiar environment. It felt both strange and comforting to be there again. As the universe had a mischievous sense of timing Samarth was also there, He was wearing a red oversized T-shirt, his hair tousled perfectly, and the sight of him stopped Urvi's heart for a moment. But this time, something was different. The sight of him didn't send her heart into a frenzy. There were no butterflies, no rush of infatuation. Instead, she felt...normal. It was a strange, almost surreal feeling, to see him and not be overwhelmed by emotion.
Srishti called her over to join a conversation with him, Urvi hesitated only for a moment before walking up to them. It was the first time she had spoken to Samarth, and she wasn't sure what to expect.
"Hey, can I join you guys for the competition?" Urvi asked, trying to keep her tone casual.
Samarth looked at her with mild surprise, then smiled playfully. "You dance too ? I never saw you in society!"
Urvi felt a flush of embarrassment but quickly recovered. "Of course, I do," she replied, playfully punching his shoulder. She showed him a video of one of her previous performances, and
Samarth watched the video, then nodded appreciatively. "Damn, you're good."Relief washed over Urvi, and she smiled back at him. There was an easy rapport between them, a spark of connection that felt natural, unforced. They continued chatting for a while, joined by other members of the group, and eventually moved outside to the central lawn to relax and enjoy the sunshine.
As they sat together, talking and laughing, Urvi found herself feeling unexpectedly comfortable around Samarth. It was as if they had known each other for much longer than a few minutes, like they were picking up a conversation that had been going on for years. She felt a warmth spread through her, a sense of rightness in the moment But then she noticed Samarth's closeness with a girl named Ishmita. They seemed comfortable with each other, laughing and talking as if they shared a history. Urvi felt a pang of jealousy but quickly pushed it aside. "Maybe he's committed," she thought, deciding to keep her distance. There was no point in getting involved if he was already taken.
Despite the lingering thoughts of Samarth, Urvi enjoyed the time they spent together. The conversation flowed easily, and she felt a genuine connection. But just as she was beginning to relax into the moment, Samarth announced that he had to leave for home. Urvi felt a wave of disappointment but masked it with a smile.
After he left, one of her friends casually mentioned that Ishmita had a boyfriend. Urvi's heart skipped a beat at the revelation. Samarth was single. The realization made her both nervous and excited. As she made her way home, her mind was filled with thoughts of Samarth. How had they connected so easily? Was it really just a coincidence, or was there something more at play?
By the time Urvi reached home, her emotions were in turmoil. The feelings she had tried so hard to suppress were coming back, and she wasn't sure how to handle them. But one thing was clear—this wasn't just another infatuation. This was something deeper, something she couldn't ignore.
But the happiness came a sense of fear. She remembered the pain of her past, the anxiety and panic attacks that had plagued her after her last relationship. The thought of opening herself up again was terrifying. Yet, there was something about Samarth that made her want to take the risk.
As she drifted off to sleep, Urvi couldn't help but wonder what the universe had in store for her. She had no idea what the future held, but for the first time in a long time, she felt ready to find out.
