As Robert drove through the dimly lit streets, his mind kept drifting back to the events of the night. He couldn't shake the image of Sophia—terrified yet determined to seek help for her friend. It wasn't common for someone from the outside to come back into their world, especially not after witnessing what she had. He admired her bravery, even though he knew it was probably born out of desperation.
Glancing over at her, he noticed how she was clutching her seatbelt tightly, her knuckles white. The fear and uncertainty were evident on her face, and Robert felt a surge of protectiveness. He wanted to reassure her, but he wasn't entirely sure how.
"You're handling this better than most would, you know," Robert said, trying to break the tension.
Sophia looked at him, her eyes still filled with worry. "I don't feel like I'm handling anything at all," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just... I didn't know what else to do."
"Still, you came back. That takes courage," Robert said, genuinely impressed.
Sophia remained silent for a moment, processing his words. She then turned to him, a question lingering in her eyes. "Who are you guys? Who is Alessandro?"
Robert hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "We're... we're part of a family. Alessandro's family. We've been in this city for generations, building, protecting what's ours. But it's not just about business—it's about loyalty, trust, and responsibility."
"And Alessandro?" Sophia asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
"Alessandro is... well, he's the one in charge now. He's had to take on a lot, especially recently. More than anyone should at his age. But he's good at it—smart, strategic, and he genuinely cares about the people close to him. That's why he's so determined to find Lara. He feels responsible."
Sophia nodded, absorbing the information. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen. We were just on vacation... I don't even know how we got mixed up in all of this."
Robert softened his tone. "It's not your fault. Sometimes, things just happen. And when they do, you just have to deal with them the best you can. But you're not alone in this anymore. We'll help you find Lara."
She looked at him with a mixture of gratitude and doubt. "Why are you helping me?"
Robert met her gaze, his expression sincere. "Because it's the right thing to do. And... because I respect what you're doing. You didn't leave your friend behind, even when things got dangerous. That says a lot about you."
Sophia felt a strange comfort in his words. Despite the chaos, there was something reassuring in the way he spoke, something that made her feel a little less alone.
As they drove through the night, Robert couldn't help but admire Sophia's quiet strength. It was rare to meet someone who could face such fear and still push through. He found himself hoping that, once all of this was over, he might get to know her better. But for now, the priority was getting her to safety—and finding Lara.
After getting a call from Alessandro, Robert's demeanor grew more serious. As he drove Sophia to the safe house, she noticed the change and asked, "Who was that on the phone?"
Robert, trying to maintain a reassuring tone, replied, "It was Alessandro. He needs me back at his place once you're settled."
Sophia, her voice tinged with worry, pressed on, "Please, Robert, tell me as much as you can about Lara. I need to know everything you're finding out."
Robert looked at her briefly before returning his gaze to the road. He could see the anxiety in her eyes, and it tugged at him. "I promise, as soon as I know something, I'll let you know. We're doing everything we can to find her."
