The bright screen of the phone that he held in front of him illuminated his face and the dark room around him, making shadows dance against the walls at every movement he made. Yuuji's eyes felt sore from hours of scrolling through Instagram. He had been lost in a haze of endless posts and stories, trying to distract himself from the weight of his thoughts. With a sigh of frustration, he finally sat up, his posture tense, and turned off his phone. The digital clock on his bedside table blinked 2:07 AM in cold, blue numbers.

He rubbed his tired eyes and was about to place the phone back on his nightstand when it buzzed and lit up once again. The sudden vibration jolted him, and he squinted at the screen, half-expecting it to be another late-night spam message. But the caller ID read "Nobara" with the women's contact image.

He frowned. Why would she call at this hour? Yuuji answered the call, "Hello...?" he croaked, feeling the dryness in his throat. He made an attempt to clear his throat but failed miserable.

"Yuuji! Did you hear the news!?" Nobara's voice burst through the receiver, sharp and excited, making Yuuji flinch and pull the phone away from his ear.
"Is this really Nobara..?" Yuuji questioned, a yawn escaping his lips. He heard a scoff from the phone, but ignored it. "What news...?" Yuuji asked, as he rubbed his eyes in an attempt to shake off the remnants of sleep. He wished for just a few more moments of silence but shook his head at himself, knowing it wasn't possible once he answered the phone.

There was a small hesitant breath on the other end of the line. Yuuji could hear his own heartbeat thudding in his ears. Was it something he said?

"Saotru Gojo is back!" Nobara laughed out. Yuuji froze. His body went rigid, and he could feel his heart start racing uncontrollably faster than what it was already. He blinked rapidly, hoping that this was just another 'late-night hallucination' as his therapist had diagnosed what he had. Hoping he had just mis-heard Nobara.

"Yuuji, it's all over the news!" Nobara's voice was almost frantic. "I just saw it on a live feed. They're saying he's been seen in Kyoto. They didn't give many details, but it's definitely him. I mean, there were rumors before, but now there's proof for real!"
"How do we know it's not someone pretending to be him..?" He ran a hand through his disheveled hair, trying to clear his thoughts. "How is this even possible?" he muttered to himself, but Nobara seemed to hear him anyway as he could basically see the grin on her face.
"I don't know! They're still trying to confirm everything. The reports are all over the place,"
"Who even told you all of this? Wait, who's watching the news at this time?" Yuuji's sighed in frustration. He lowered his phone and placed it on the bed sheets (turning on speakerphone while doing so), rubbing his head to try and stop the headache that was starting to form.

Yuuji could see Nobara grinning in his head. "I have my ways, Yuuji~" she snickered. The playful taunt in her voice only served to further annoy him, but also embarrassed him. He should have known. Nobara had an uncanny ability to keep tabs on anyone she found remotely interesting, including Yuuji himself.

He recalled one moment very clearly. A while back, Nobara had jokingly claimed she'd learned all sorts of personal details about him through a 'harmless prank.' It had seemed like an innocent enough joke at the time, but the level of detail she had revealed had sent a shiver down his spine. The sheer knowledge she possessed freaked him out, making him question just how much she actually knew. 'Harmless prank my ass-'

Nobara's voice cut through his train of thoughts, bringing him back to the present. "We could go to Kyoto, you know~" Yuuji blinked, his breath hitching ever so slightly.
"What?" Yuuji frowned, "Why?"
"We could see if these 'rumors,' as you like to call them, are really true or not~" Nobara giggled, "Think about it. If Satoru Gojo really is back, then this could be our chance to get some answers. And maybe-just maybe-meet him."

Yuuji's initial reaction was excitement. The idea of seeing Satoru Gojo, especially if the rumors were true, was both exhilarating and nerve racking. But that thrill was quickly tempered by the familiar warmth spreading across his face as he thought of Nobara's true intentions. "If this is just an excuse to make me fall back into that..." Yuuji paused, "Then it's a horrible plan and it's not going to work!"

Nobara's laughter bubbled up again, light and teasing. "What are you thinking, Yuuji~?" A groan escaped Yuuji's lips as he cast a glance at the digital clock next to his bed. "Nothing, nothi-"
"Sure, sure~ You're probably fa-"
"HEY! Heyyy-Would you look at the time! It's 2:34 AM!" Yuuji interrupted, his voice starting to shake only slightly before a blush crept onto his face as he glanced at the clock again, realizing just how late it had become, and the thought of what Nobara had tried to mention. "I'm tired, Nobara, and I have work in the morning. I should go to bed."

He could hear the soft hum of amusement from Nobara's end. Yuuji sighed deeply and picked up his phone, turning it off speakerphone. "I'm assuming you already have the train tickets?"
"Awww, Yuuji! You know me so well!" Nobara's voice was almost sing-song as she responded.
"I'll pick you up in a day or two!"
"You don't have a specific time!?"
"Nope!" Nobara replied. "It's a surprise!"

Yuuji could feel the uneasiness roll around in his stomach. But, he couldn't help but smile despite his exhaustion. He appreciated her. Nobara has done a lot for him ever since they met (which was a long time ago), when she didn't need to. "..Alright, alright. I'll be ready," Yuuji said, cursing at himself for agreeing to his insane plan. "Just..." He hesitated for a moment, "just don't leave me hanging for too long." Nobara chuckled.
"You got it! Get some rest, Yuuji. Talk to you soon!"
"Yeah, talk to you soon," Yuuji echoed, though he was already half-listening as he moved to hang up the phone. He placed the device gently on the nightstand beside his bed, the soft click of the button signaling the end of their conversation. Yuuji was excited to say the least. Satoru Gojo was finally back. Or so people were saying.

Satoru Gojo had left the acting community a few years back when he was supposedly involved in a scandal. Yuuji didn't believe any of it until he saw the video Satoru Gojo posted on his Instagram account (that was only a few seconds long), saying that he was going on 'haitas' until things calmed down. People around Japan soon started to hate Satoru Gojo, calling him a fraud and a selfish brat who was looking for fame. 'To be noticed by society.'

With a heavy sigh, Yuuji lay back down, pulling the covers up over his shoulders. He covered his eyes with his forearm, as his eyelids grew heavier and heavier, each blink feeling like it took more effort than the last one did. Yuuji tried to focus on the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest, hoping that the monotony would lull him into sleep like his therapist suggested. The bed was inviting at least.

Finally, Yuuji surrendered to his exhaustion. With one last, deep breath, he allowed himself to be enveloped by sleep.

Got the prologue out to 1379 words. I hope that it makes sense, English is not my first language but I am taking extra time to read through and then hand it off to my editor and have her fix things.

I am hoping that other chapters will be longer than this one, this chapter was short I feel.
Please make sure to vote on my chapters as well, support will be appreciated!
