The train slowed to a halt with a soft rhythmic clunk. A voice spoke over the intercom, announcing their arrival in Kyoto. Yuuji exhaled slowly, his nervousness was obvious as he stood, gathering his luggage. He was told to pack as much as he could fit in one suit-case because Nobara didn't necessarily tell him how long they were going to be staying there.
As they excited the train, Yuuji glanced around the bustling station. People streamed past in a hurry, some with purpose in their stride, presumably heading to work or important appointments, while others, perhaps on a day trip. Yuuji's gaze drifted back to Nobara, who had pulled out her phone and had started to text someone. "Why are we not going anywhere?"
"Calm down Yuuji," Nobara chuckled at him as he leaned over to see what she was typing on her phone before she glanced at him and moved away from his view. "Besides, we're waiting for one more person to show up." Yuuji's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"Another person? You never mentioned anyone else coming along." Was it someone he knew? Yuuji could only frown slightly.Nobara's only response was a mischievous grin as she tucked her phone away. "I can't believe you dragged me into this, Nobara."
Yuuji turned around in disbelief as he saw a raven-haired man standing a couple of strides away from the two, "Megumi!?"Nobara's laughter bubbled up beside him again, a shit-eating grin spreading across her face. "You actually showed up," she said, clearly delighted. Megumi gave a small, somewhat awkward nod, raising a hand to rub the back of his neck.
"Yeah, well, I couldn't miss this."
"Miss what?" Yuuji asked confused.
Megumi shook his head as he walked over to the two. "What's the hotel we're staying at?"
"I don't know." Nobara shrugged. Megumi frowned as he pulled out his phone,
"Good thing that I actually booked us a hotel then."
Yuuji laughed. Megumi was more on the serious side. Being prepared for almost anything. He was someone Yuuji liked to look up to. "What's the hotel name?"
"Hotel Granvia Kyoto." Megumi turned off his phone and put it back into his pocket.
"Alrighty then! Let's go!" Yuuji started to walk away from the two, trying to make his way through the bustling train station saying words like 'excuse me' and 'pardon me.'A faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he glanced back at the pair behind him, both of whom were exchanging knowing looks. With a small nod, Yuuji motioned for them to follow. He turned forward once again—until an unexpected force collided with him. The impact sent him stumbling backward, nearly knocking him off balance.
"Ah, I'm sor—" he began, only for his voice to falter as his gaze lifted. Yuuji's eyes widened in surprise.
Before him stood a towering figure—easily two heads and a half taller than himself. The man was broad-shouldered, his muscular frame evident beneath the simple clothing that clung tightly to him. What caught Yuuji's attention more, though, was the man's face—or rather, the lack of it. A dark mask covered his features, leaving his expression unreadable, and a black beanie rested snugly on his head, and sunglasses covered his eyes, despite the oppressive summer heat.
'Strange...' Yuuji's brows furrowed. Beanies and masks in the blistering heat? The sunglasses were understandable but they were in a train station. Something felt off. The man's presence exuded an unsettling energy, as if he didn't quite belong in the train station. Yuuji instinctively straightened himself, his pulse quickening, every nerve on edge.
"Who... are you?" he muttered under his breath, trying to maintain composure despite the unsettling feeling gnawing at his gut. The man didn't respond. Instead, he stood there for a moment, his masked face still turned toward Yuuji. The silence was thick—almost suffocating—and for a second, Yuuji felt a strange chill crawl up his spine despite how hot it was.
