Parenting a Therian

Okay, so you're child comes up to you and says that they are a therian.  What are you supposed to do?  Many parents freak out when this happens, but it's nothing to freak out about, it's simply your child's identity.

So here's how to parent a therian.

DON'Ts:
-Punish them.  How would you feel if someone punished you for who you are (Unless "who you are" is illegal or mean)?
-Tell them therians don't exist.  Imagine someone said something you believe in (For example, God) didn't exist and it's stupid to pretend?
-Act like they're joking.  Don't say "Good one!".  It will irritate them, and destroy your relationship with them.
-Tell them you don't accept mental illness in your house.  It's not a mental illness, and anyway mental illness is real, and you shouldn't get mad at your kid for it.

DOs:
-Let them wear gear, do quadrobics, or do vocals.
-Bring them to places that are similar to the habitat of their theriotype.
-Accept them for who they are.
-Help them make masks and gear (if they want you too)!  It's a great way to bond with your therian child.
-Accept that it's not a phase.  I'll admit, sometimes kids go into phases, including therian phases.  But if you're an actual therian, it's NOT a phase.

Therianthropy is not a phase (most of the time).  Don't say it is.  Please respect your child if they identify as a therian.  If you still think it's weird, you don't have to comment on it.  Just let your child live their life.
