As Elias and the Night Pride descended the stairs, the soft glow of the chamber grew dimmer, the vibrant colors of the murals fading into the shadows. The air grew cooler, and the sounds of the night grew louder, a symphony of crickets and distant howls. The gravity of his decision weighing on him, Elias felt the thrill of the unknown pump through his veins.
At last, they arrived at the foot of the Tree of Life, where the earth was cool and moist under their paws. The moonlight laid a silvery trail ahead, guiding them from the tree's sanctuary out into the expansive savannah. The rest of the Night Pride had assembled, their gazes filled with curiosity and vigilance.
"Now, Eli," Rani began, her voice softer than he had ever heard it, "you must understand that joining the Night Pride is not a decision to be taken lightly. We are the guardians of this land, and our bond with the Great Spirits is sacred."
Elias nodded solemnly. "I understand that." he said. "Now, what is the subject that must be addressed? Is it of great importance?"
Surak stepped back and gestured towards the chamber's wall with a broad sweep of his paw. "Look above Eli," he commanded. "There, written in the essence of our pride, lies your answer."
Elias tilted his head back, squinting in the dim illumination. Above, a vast mural spanned the chamber, portraying a fierce battle between humanoid stick figures aided by other land animals and regal lions. The figures brandished spears and bows, eyes alight with hostility, along with their land animal companions as the lions reared up, dignified and resolute, their outlines aglow with a fervent blaze. The depiction was bold and commanding, a mute witness to an age of strife.
"What is this?" he murmured; his voice laden with wonder.
"These are the Outsiders," Kion said, a trace of sorrow in his voice. "They were once members of our pride but have chosen a separate way. They abide by their own laws, and their hearts do not resonate with the Great Spirits."
A shiver coursed through Elias as he examined the mural. The stick figures, armed and foreboding, bore an uncanny resemblance to the humans from his childhood, and the idea of such a stark division was disconcerting. "So, who are these 'Outsiders'?" he whispered, "And what is their primary objective?"
"The Outsiders," Queen Rani declared, her voice echoing through the ages, "are comprised of discontented humans, lions, and various terrestrial creatures exiled from both the Pridelands and the Outlands. They disregard the equilibrium of the Circle of Life and ignore the counsel of the Great Spirits."
Nirmala advanced, her gaze serious and stern. "The Outsiders," she declared, "seek to destroy those who dwell in harmony within the Pridelands and the Outlands. They spurn the Circle of Life, the fundamental essence that unites us all."
"Look behind you, Eli. There's another mural that explains more about the Outsiders and their animosity towards the Pridelands and the Outlands," Rani said.
Elias experienced a shiver down his spine as he turned to view the mural Rani had pointed out. It portrayed a world ravaged by chaos and destruction, with the figures of the Outsiders rampaging across the lands. Their eyes shone with malevolence; their weapons brandished against the very creatures they were meant to protect.
"Oh god. Are the Outsiders truly that malicious?" Elias inquired; his voice tinged with shock.
Baliyo nodded solemnly. "Indeed, they do," he spoke, his gaze intensifying. "They harbor a profound disdain for us Pridelanders, convinced that we have become feeble and have abandoned the lion's true path. They are determined to claim what they consider rightfully theirs, by any means necessary."
