chapter two: the winter soldier

"open the lemurian stars satellite launch file."

felice sat in nick fury's office, leaning on the desk as she stared at the screen. both were in the large room, reviewing the data nat had retrieved from the ship.

the woman had her work clothes on as it was a usual day in the office, but of course, she had her weapons stashed away somewhere that only she knew about.

felice was someone fury trusted a lot, which might've been because she had trust issues of her own, and because she was always finding out his secrets being a telepath and all.

when it came to missions, fury always turned to her, confident in her abilities and expertise. he considered her more reliable than natasha, despite the black widows skills.

however, fury always struggled with felice's snarky comments and sarcastic remarks.

felice saw him as a father figure, much like she had with coulson before his death. fury had orchestrated her rescue from hydra, while coulson had carried it out. she was forever grateful for them.

"access denied," came the voice from the screen.

fury and felice exchanged a glance.

"run decryption," fury ordered.

the screen loaded briefly before daying: "decryption failed."

"director override. fury, nicholas j.," fury commanded, trying to bypass the security.

"override denied. all files sealed," the computer responded.

felice could see fury's frustration mounting.

"on whose authority?"

"fury, nicholas j."

fury scoffed and stared at the screen, then turned to felice. "go down to the garage. i'll meet you there."

felice stood. "where are you going?"

"world security council."

felice waited in the parking garage next to one of their black cars, twirling the van keys in her hand, growing impatient with fury's delay.

"surprised you're still here," fury said, approaching with an amused smile.

"was thinking about leaving," felice honestly admitted.

fury chuckled, taking the keys from felice and handing her a new set. she looked down at them, puzzled.

"we're driving separately," fury explained. "just in case."

felice raised an eyebrow. fury handed her an earpiece, placing one in his own ear. felice followed suit.

"i don't see how this is necessary," felice said, making her way to the car beside fury's.

fury met her gaze squarely.

"i don't trust anyone here besides you."

felice drove behind fury, slowing at a red light while listening to fury's directions. a police car passed her, pulling up beside fury's van. felice paid it no mind as police were always patrolling the area these days.

"this is hill," came a distant voice in her earpiece.

"i need you in dc immediately. deep shadow conditions," fury instructed.

"give me four hours."

"you have three. over," fury replied before ending the call.

"seems urgent, fury," felice mused. "care to share?"
