Like Son, Like Father

"Huh? A rocket?" I question, wondering if I heard him right or if I'm still half-asleep and therefore nothing makes sense. "Why would we build a rocket? Where would we even attain the knowledge to build one? Ever heard of rocket science? It's like super complicated and hard-to-understand material. I don't think it's a coincidence that the word "rocket" is in there."

Tyrone doesn't say anything, but just watches me with an amused expression.

"Why would we even try?"

"To go see the moon." Tyrone replies with a smirk.

"But... I see the moon everyday. We can see it from earth. And even if we couldn't..." I pause, looking everywhere around my room. "I mean, have you seen my room, Ty?"

"I would imagine I have, seeing I'm standing in it right now."

I give Tyrone a flat stare, and he just laughs, then says,

"C'mon, let's go get breakfast."

The first thing I see when I enter the kitchen is a large male, and it catches me so off guard that I scream and hide behind a confused Tyrone.

"Good morning to you too, Khai." The male says, and that's when I remember I have a dad now.

Well, I always did, but now he's actually present in my life.

"Ohhh... Good morning!" I happily skip away from behind Tyrone, who has no words.

Rassler smiles at me, and I return it, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to act around him. He called me Khai, not son. Am I supposed to call him dad? Or just Rassler? Or Mr. whatever his last name is? Wait, if he's my dad he has to have the same last name as me, right? But what if he doesn't? How am I supposed to know-

"You alright, Khai?" Tyrone asks, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Oh. Uhm... yeah. I-I I'm just new to t-this and... and."

"You're nervous." Tyrone observes.

"Oh, sorry Khai, I didn't mean to make you feel that way." Rassler says sympathetically.

"No no, it's fine I just need to get used to this and I'm a little overwhelmed but..." I don't finish my sentence because I have no idea what I was going to say or if I was even going to say anything.

Rassler looks over to Hazel, uncertain. She just nods as if it say,

"He'll be fine."

"You should take your meds." Tyrone tells me.

"You should take yours."

"Already did. While you were off asleep... dreaming about the moon and such."

Rassler and my mom look at each other questioningly, seeming somewhat concerned for I don't know what reason.

"Do you dream about the moon a lot, Khai? What are you dreams like?" My mom questions.

"What? No, I didn't dream about the moon. And why do you care?"

Hazel chooses not to reply, and I frown, confused.

Does Tyrone know something I don't?

I turn to him for answers.

"Hey, don't look at me, you were the one yammering on about it in your sleep."

"I was? What did I say?" I ask, suddenly worried I may have embarrassed myself.

"Nothing much."

I sigh.
