My Dad

I've had a lot of ups and downs with my dad.
But before that, when I was little, we were close.
When I was a kid my dad and I would watch the X-Men movies and even watched the cartoons together, I think that's why I like X-Men more than any of the other Marvel superhero groups, I'm just emotionally attached to X-Men.

My dad used to collect trading cards but instead of sports it had superheros on them, and they had awesome artwork on them. I remember me and him would sit somewhere and look through them and little me would go "OooOoO" while pointing at a card that caught my eye.
These cards had Iron man, Hulk, ect but my favorite ones were the X-Men cards. My dad had Wolverine, Rogue and Gambit, Cyclops, Jean Grey, ect. I loved it, and still to this day my dad has those cards.

My dad's favorite out of the X-Men was definitely Wolverine, which I can see why, Wolverine had an attitude and could definitely be an asshole but deep down, Logan (Wolverine) had a heart was actually really sweet to the people he cared for.
And my dad is kind of the same way, on the surface my dad is a toughy but he really does care for the people around.
My dad didn't have a good childhood, and when my dad and mom got married and obviously wanted kids my dad basically vowed that he would not give me or my brother the life he had. And he didn't, we grew up poor but my dad and mom have always made sure we had good Christmases and good birthdays.
If we needed to go to the doctors they took us.

I miss being little though, I miss sitting there on the living room floor and watching my dad play games, I miss watching the X-Men movies with him and talking about how cool it looks.
I miss asking him questions about the world.

Although I have had a rocky relationship with him, especially since I hit my teens, I did not get along with my dad and dare I say I had "daddy issues". But since living with my aunt and then coming back home, I really have gotten along with my dad more and more. And I'm really glad we've gotten closer, because despite what he might think I do love him and appreciate him.
