surprisingly, megumi bumps into her in school the next time.
he's in the university library, where he plans to work out the rest of his assignment. he's just about grabbing a book from a shelf when someone bumps into his back, knocking the book out of his hands.
"don't you-" he starts to speak but stops abruptly when he sees the familiar figure bend to pick up his book.
"i'm so sorry. i wasn't looking" she apologizes, bowing slightly as if to apologize some more.
"it's fine" he mutters and grabs the book from her hands.
she looks up then and sees it's him.
the apologetic look on her face is quickly replaced with a genuine smile.
"oh, megumi! fancy seeing you here"
"it's a library" he points out and she blushes in embarrassment.
"right..."
"well, if you'll excuse me"
it comes out a bit colder than he intends but still, he doesn't exactly have time on his side so he turns to make his way back to his table.
"actually," she says, making him stop in his tracks. "do you mind if i join you?"
he must've given her a weird look because she starts to explain.
"it's just that i was supposed to meet up with a friend but she canceled last minute and studying alone always gets super boring really easily for me"
she talks so fast that he can barely understand her. yet, he nods.
"sure"
he didn't think her smile could get even bigger but somehow, it does.
"lovely! i'll just get my things and meet up with you" she tells him, a tad too excited.
"okay"
she gets to the table a little while later and he only gives her a brief nod of acknowledgement before he goes back to studying.

emi steals furtive peeks at megumi at intervals. he doesn't even notice. he's so focused on the book in front of him.
just like nobara had told her, he really wasn't the talkative type.
"you seem to have very interesting roommates," emi tells nobara as they walk down the streets of harajuku, shopping bags in hand.
"tch. interesting? try annoying" nobara corrects her, an annoyed look flashing across her face.
