"just get meat lovers you idiot" nobara voices, smacking yuji, who's currently ordering pizza, on the head.
it's become a sort of tradition to have a movie night every saturday. this weekend though is yuji's turn to get snacks and he can't decide on what toppings to get on his pizza.
"but i want hawaiian" he mumbles.
"then get that!" she yells exasperatedly and saunters off to where megumi is trying to pick out a movie for them.
"good options" she comments, peering over his shoulder.
she watches as he goes back and forth between the choices on the screen before settling on a horror movie that had just been released.
"no horror movies. yuji doesn't like those"
megumi gives a hum of acknowledgement and moves to another film.
"no action. i don't like those either"
without as much as a word, he drops the tv remote in nobara's already outstretched palm before plopping down on the couch. she smiles in victory at this.
just like every other saturday, he's already expected this.
she ends up putting on a comedy just as the food yuji ordered gets there.
it's not long before they settle into comfortable positions on their couch. the film drags on for an hour when megumi comes to terms with the fact that he's bored out of his mind.
he knows it's only him because his two roommates seem to be enjoying the film just fine.
excusing himself now would just attract a bunch of questions from them and he's really not up for that so he entertains himself with his phone.
a few minutes later, nobara gets up to get another drink from the kitchen.
"get me a cola!" yuji calls after her.
maybe it's just that the two boys have been completely underestimating her sheer strength. or maybe it's just that she has very poor hand-eye coordination. but nobara incredibly completely misses yuji's awaiting arms and instead hits his framed prized possession. the same one megumi has tried tirelessly to get him to take down.
it falls to the floor with a thud and yuji immediately goes to it.
"aiki-chan!" he wails dramatically, leaving the other two bewildered.
"you named it?!" they ask simultaneously but he ignores them.
"i thought i told you to take it down anyway," megumi tells him.
"how else would people get to appreciate it if it's hidden?" he argues back and a frown etches itself on megumi's face.
"no one cares about that stupid shirt"
"emi did" yuji mumbles, which then jogs nobara's memory.
"oh right" she starts, stopping to sip on her soda. "she's coming over tomorrow so i need you both out of the apartment"
she says it so casually that it almost unbelievable that she'd been the one to cause a significant spike in yuji's blood pressure just minutes ago.
"huh?" the two boys echo.
"i don't want her around you two, you're weird" she defends like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"but i have a match to watch tomorrow" he protests.
"do it at junpei's place"
"he's out of town for the weekend"
"not my problem!"
"hey!"
they start to go back and forth, not even noticing megumi whose gone silent since nobara announced her plans.
the mention of the blonde girl brings him back to that day at the library. they'd talked quite a bit during lunch, mostly her though. he hadn't known what to say or how to even reply.
"you know if you really like the coffee here, there's a cafe just down the street from your place, i think" emi starts to say after she notices how much megumi is focused on the cup on the table.
"what?" he asks, as if snapping back to reality.
"oh sorry, i just assumed you liked it"
"i do"
he doesn't. he'd asked for two sugars and they'd put cream instead.
"then you should totally check it out. they make the best cold brew i've ever tasted. it's quite fitting for the hot weather these days"
he knows this. he's been there before. numerous times actually. enough for them to know his usual.
"really?"
"yeah," she nods, "it's super good".
he doesn't know why he can't honestly say what he thinks. it's really unlike him, lying just to spare someone's feelings. so much for an unshakeable character.
the ever-growing smile on her face though, as she talks, makes it all a little bit worth it.
"fine! you can stay!" nobara finally gives in after a few long minutes of bickering.
"yippee!"
"but don't do anything stupid" she warns him and he nods, just happy to be allowed to stay.
megumi doesn't even bother to disagree with her. he already has plans with toge anyway so it's of no use.
