The sky had fallen dark, the stars brightening up the night sky. The cool breeze feeling fresh against my skin as I stood outside taking it all in. I had spent many nights outside looking up at the beautiful sky as it were the only moments lately where I felt content.

I checked the time on my phone, realizing I needed to go to work. I've been working the night shifts for the last two weeks but I was okay with that. It got me going outside more often to look at the stars which became the highlight of my days.

On the way to work I was lost in my thoughts, specifically thinking about my ex. Not in the way that most people would think. Was I hurt? Of course I was. Did I want him back? Absolutely not.

It has been two months since my ex, Justin, and I broke up. Justin and I had been together for a year. At the beginning he was sweet, genuine, and a gentleman, but he changed quickly after about 2 months into the relationship. He began to show his true self. I had fallen for him too quickly and a part of me regretted that. He was the first and only guy I've dated and with what had happened in that whole year left scars, causing me close myself emotionally. I don't want to fall in love again, that was brutal enough as it was. The thought of getting close to anyone else again terrified me, so I closed myself from everything and everyone.

Justin became abusive quickly. He wouldn't let me see my friends, the very few I had, and the one time I decided to see one of my friends he hit me across the face and told me that I was to stay home and not leave the house. Most nights I cried myself to sleep. Then one night, Justin decided to bring home another woman. She was tall, perfect glowing skin with long blonde hair. I knew at this moment he was obviously cheating on me but I had to energy to start a fight so as they walked into the bedroom while I was in the living room I walked out and didn't go back. I never seen him again and it was for the best.

I arrived at work and quickly wandered in as I was just on time for my shift. I worked at the bar on broadway, not too far from my place.

"Emily, you made it! There's already been two fights and I've only been here for half an hour." Veronica said.

Veronica is my co-worker, and my work friend you could say. I enjoy working with her as she never fails to make the night interesting.

"I made it!" I say as I head over to see a man who was waiting to order a drink.

" What can I get you tonight?" I asked the man.

He smirk. "Can I get a tall glass of you?"

Working as a bartender wasn't always a pleasant job but it kept the bills paid.

"I'll get this one!" Veronica whispered to me then took my place.

I heard the bell rang, like it had every time someone walked into the bar. I looked at the door to see a man, tall, handsome, but I was unable to see his eyes as he wore sunglasses. Who wears sunglasses at night?

"LIAM, OVER HERE!" I heard a man shout from the other side of the bar, sitting at a table in the corner with a couple of other guys with him. The man, Liam, walked over and took a seat next to the one who shouted his name.

"Oh my god!! It's going to be a lucky night! Do you know who that guy is?" Veronica interrupted me observing Liam.

"No, I have no clue!" I said, turning my attention on her.
