He returned back and found her reclining lazily on the couch, her eyes glued to the laptop.

Josh in a gentle voice said, "Mind if I join you?"

Shivi rolled her eyes and said, "Nah, I was just watching to kill time."

Perceiving her subdued mood, he asked "I guess the movie isn't all that great then."

Her voice carried a tinge of bitterness as she said, "Just a run-of-the-mill Indian story. Rich dad, struggling boyfriend. He won't let her marry him. The same old drama." She sighed heavily. "The father sounded exactly like mine – obsessed with caste, prestige, and family standards."

Josh sensed that something deeper and more profound was at play in Shivi's heart.

Josh tried to take her mind off her family, "You know, our story could easily be made into a movie. It will be very dramatic."

Shivi chuckled softly, her eyes holding a glint of sorrow.

"Well, it's a universal tale, really. Wealthy families disapproving of their children's less fortunate partners." He leaned in closer, earnestly emphasizing his point. "My dad came from an incredibly wealthy and influential family, but when he chose my mom, their egos got in the way, and they disowned him."

Shivi was surprised by the revelation and sighed audibly, "What's wrong with people and their obsession with money? Why does everything have to revolve around wealth? That's why I can't stand rich people." Shivi's frustration with the influence of wealth in society was palpable.

Tears glistening in her eyes, as she finally opened up, "You know, Josh, all the problems I face stem from my family's wealth. If my father wasn't this affluent, we wouldn't have been sent to those fancy boarding schools. We'd all be living together under one roof."

She sighed deeply, her voice quivering. "He wouldn't have become so arrogant and cold-hearted. Money made our house bigger, but it shrank their hearts."

Josh listened attentively, his heart aching for her pain.

Josh tried to comfort her saying, "Shivi, not all wealthy people are like that."

Meeting his gaze with tear-filled eyes, she said, "Maybe, but from what I've seen, most of them are." She hesitated, then admitted, "Remember the day I got really annoyed when you lied to me?" She frowned slightly, her voice trembling. "I started to doubt if you were hiding your true financial status. You told me you came from a regular middle-class family, but the way you spent money made me wonder. Thank goodness you reassured me about your finances that day, or else..."

He was taken aback by her candor but tried to remain calm and questioned her, "Or else what, Shivi?"

Shivi paused for a moment and confessed, "I would have broken up with you..."

Josh fell silent, his eyes locked onto hers, with deep contemplation and shock. He was now getting giddy with her opinions.

Her tone softened as tears flowed down her cheeks. "Money has left me feeling profoundly isolated. Back when my family in India had limited resources, we were tightly knit, supportive, and genuinely cared for one another." She hugged herself, seeking comfort. "However, as wealth began to flow in, it began to change my parents. They became consumed by their affluence, always in pursuit of more, and this transformation made them distant and insensitive."
