Later that evening, the seniors called all the freshers for a welcome event. The auditorium buzzed with excitement as students chatted and laughed, eager to start their college journey. Shreya and Abhishek, still simmering from their earlier encounter, found themselves seated far apart, both lost in their own thoughts.
The seniors, with mischievous grins, started calling out names for various awards and announcements.
Shreya's eyes rolled as Abhishek's name was called for
"Most Likely to Succeed in Computer Science."
She whispered to her neighbor, "Figures, Mr. Perfect gets an award already."
Just then, a senior announced,
"And now, for a special segment, we have Sodium and Water!"
A wave of confusion swept through the crowd. Whispers spread like wildfire as people tried to figure out who these mysterious "Sodium" and "Water" were.
Shreya's eyes widened as she realized the seniors were staring at her and Abhishek.
"What's going on?" she whispered to her neighbor, who shrugged.
Before either could react, the seniors dragged them onto the stage, much to the amusement of the entire batch. Shreya's face burned as Abhishek's eyes met hers, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips.
The seniors explained with exaggerated enthusiasm,
"Given your explosive chemistry today, we've decided to name you 'Sodium' and 'Water'!" Laughter erupted from the audience as Shreya and Abhishek stood there, red-faced and utterly flummoxed.
As they left the stage, Abhishek whispered, "Well, Sodium, looks like we're stuck together now."
Shreya playfully rolled her eyes. "Oh joy, Water."
