The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the quiet room. Ally sat on the edge of her bed, her hands trembling as she stared at the floor. Tbh was beside her, his face filled with concern as he gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
“Ally,” Tbh whispered, trying to meet her eyes. “You’ve been distant lately. What’s going on?”
Ally bit her lip, feeling the weight of his words. She had been trying to keep it together, to pretend that everything was fine, but the truth was eating her alive. Xyrth’s voice had been growing louder in her mind, her influence creeping into Ally’s thoughts and actions. It was like a dark cloud that wouldn’t go away, and it was getting harder to resist.
“I’m scared, Tbh,” Ally finally admitted, her voice shaking. “Xyrth… she’s getting stronger. I can feel her taking over, and I don’t know how much longer I can fight her.”
Tbh’s grip on her shoulder tightened, his heart aching at the fear in her voice. “You’re strong, Ally. You’ve fought her before, and you can do it again. I’m here with you, okay? We’ll figure this out together.”
Ally shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. “It’s different this time. She’s not just trying to take over—she’s trying to erase me. I feel like I’m losing myself, like I’m fading away…”
Tbh’s heart pounded in his chest as he pulled her into a tight hug. “You’re not going anywhere, Ally. I won’t let that happen. You’re stronger than she is.”
But even as he said the words, doubt gnawed at him. He had seen the signs—the moments when Ally’s voice would change, when her eyes would take on that cold, malicious gleam that wasn’t hers. Xyrth was more than just a spirit; she was a force of darkness, and she was relentless.
Ally leaned into Tbh, finding comfort in his warmth, but the fear didn’t go away. Instead, it grew, like a shadow creeping closer and closer. She could hear Xyrth’s laughter in the back of her mind, a cruel, mocking sound that sent chills down her spine.
“You can’t protect her forever,” Xyrth’s voice echoed in her mind. “Soon, she’ll be gone, and I’ll be the one in control.”
“No,” Ally whispered, her voice barely audible. “I won’t let you.”
Tbh pulled back slightly, his eyes searching her face. “What did she say?”
Ally looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears. “She said… she said I’m going to disappear.”
Tbh’s heart shattered at the sight of her pain. He didn’t know what to say, how to make it better. All he could do was hold her, hoping that his presence would be enough to keep her grounded, to keep her here.
But as the days passed, things only got worse. Ally’s episodes became more frequent, her control slipping more and more. Tbh stayed by her side, trying to keep her anchored, but it felt like trying to hold back a tidal wave.
One night, it all came crashing down.
Ally woke up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, her heart racing. She felt a cold presence in the room, and when she looked in the mirror, she didn’t see herself. She saw Xyrth, her eyes glowing with a malevolent light, a cruel smile on her lips.
“Hello, Ally,” Xyrth’s voice purred, echoing in her mind. “It’s time.”
“No...!” Ally gasped, backing away from the mirror. “No! I won’t let you—”
But Xyrth’s laughter filled her mind, drowning out her thoughts. Ally felt her body go numb, her vision darkening as Xyrth’s presence took over.
In a panic, Ally stumbled out of her room, her legs barely able to support her. She needed to find Tbh, to warn him, to—
But it was too late.
By the time she reached Tbh’s room, she wasn’t Ally anymore. Xyrth had taken over completely, her malicious grin twisting Ally’s face into something unrecognizable.
Tbh woke up to the sound of the door opening, his heart skipping a beat when he saw Ally standing there. But something was wrong—terribly wrong.
“Ally?” he asked, sitting up in bed, his voice filled with worry. “What’s going on?”
Xyrth tilted her head, her smile widening as she stepped closer. “Oh, Tbh. You really thought you could save her, didn’t you?”
Tbh’s blood ran cold. That wasn’t Ally’s voice—it was Xyrth’s. He scrambled out of bed, his heart racing with fear. “No… Ally, fight her! Don’t let her—”
But Xyrth laughed, a cold, heartless sound that made Tbh’s skin crawl. “She’s gone, Tbh. There’s nothing left of her now. It’s just me.”
Tbh shook his head, tears brimming in his eyes. “No, I don’t believe you! Ally’s still in there, I know she is!”
Xyrth’s smile faltered for a moment, and for a split second, Tbh thought he saw a flicker of Ally’s true self in her eyes. His heart leaped with hope. “Ally, I know you’re in there. Fight her! You’re stronger than this!”
For a long, agonizing moment, Xyrth’s control seemed absolute. But then, slowly, the cruel grin faded, replaced by confusion. Ally’s body trembled as she fought against the darkness, her breaths coming in short, ragged gasps.
“Tbh…” Ally’s voice broke through, faint and full of pain. “Help… me…”
Tbh rushed forward, taking her hands in his. “I’m right here, Ally. You can do this. I believe in you!”
With Tbh’s words, something inside Ally ignited—a small, flickering flame of hope. She focused on that warmth, pushing back against Xyrth’s suffocating presence.
“No!” Xyrth hissed, her grip slipping. “You can’t—”
But Ally’s strength, bolstered by Tbh’s unwavering support, was too much for Xyrth to handle. With one final, desperate push, Ally broke free from Xyrth’s hold, collapsing into Tbh’s arms as the dark presence vanished from her mind.
Tbh held her close, his heart pounding with relief. “You did it, Ally. You beat her.”
Ally clung to him, tears streaming down her face. “I-I thought I was going to lose myself. I was so scared…”
Tbh gently cupped her face, wiping away her tears with his thumbs. “You’re safe now. I’m so proud of you, Ally. You’re the strongest person I know.”
Ally leaned into his touch, feeling the warmth of his love and comfort surrounding her. The darkness that had threatened to consume her was gone, and in its place was a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in a long time.
“I love you, Tbh,” Ally whispered, her voice filled with gratitude.
Tbh smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “I love you too, Ally. Always.”
The two of them stayed like that for a long time, holding each other in the quiet of the night. The shadows had receded, and in their place was a light that couldn’t be extinguished—a light born from love, trust, and the strength they found in each other.
