As the sirens blared in the distance and the flashing lights of emergency vehicles filled the darkening sky, Liam struggled to maintain consciousness. His body ached with a pain so intense it felt like it was radiating from every nerve ending. The metal of his car was crumpled around him like a vice, trapping him in a twisted cage. He could barely move, and every breath was a laborious effort that sent sharp pains through his chest.
His mind was a haze of confusion and fear, but one thought cut through the fog with relentless clarity: he had to get to Tucker.
Liam had been speeding, desperate to reach his friend after receiving strange and unsettling messages from Tucker's mom. Her voice on the phone had been shaky; her words rushed and panicked. She hadn't given him any details—only that he needed to come quickly, that Tucker needed him. The urgency in her tone had sent chills down his spine, and without thinking, he had bolted out of the classroom and jumped into his car, tearing down the road as fast as he could. But now, lying here in the wreckage, he cursed himself for his recklessness. He had been so focused on reaching Tucker that he hadn't seen the car before him until it was too late.
"Stay with me, kid!" The voice of a paramedic broke through his daze, pulling Liam back from the edge of unconsciousness. The paramedic's face was a blur, but the urgency in his voice was unmistakable. "You're going to be okay. Just hang on."
Liam tried to respond, but his voice failed him. He could feel the darkness creeping in, threatening to pull him under. He wanted to tell the paramedic about Tucker, to make sure someone got to him, but the words wouldn't come. All he could do was hope that someone would understand and get to Tucker before it was too late.
As the paramedics worked to free him from the wreckage, Liam's mind drifted in and out of consciousness. Memories flashed before his eyes—laughing with Tucker in the school parking lot, the two of them sneaking out late at night, talking about their futures, their fears. Tucker had always been there for him, through thick and thin, and now Liam was terrified that he wouldn't be able to return the favor.
"Got him!" Another voice cut through the haze, and Liam felt a rush of air as they finally pried the door open. Hands were on him, lifting him out of the twisted metal and onto a stretcher. The pain was overwhelming, but he fought to stay awake, to stay aware.
"His vitals are weak," one of the paramedics said as they loaded him into the ambulance. "We need to get him to the hospital now."
Liam's vision blurred as they started to close the ambulance doors, but before the darkness overtook him, he managed to whisper one word: "Tucker."
The paramedic leaned in closer, trying to catch what he was saying. "What was that, kid?"
Liam summoned all the strength he had left, forcing the words out. "Tucker... find Tucker."
The paramedic nodded, though Liam wasn't sure if he had understood. "We'll do our best," he said, his tone reassuring. But Liam's world finally went black as the doors closed and the ambulance sped away.

The silence in Tucker's room was punctuated only by the steady hum of medical machines, a stark contrast to the whirlwind of emotions that had surrounded his life just hours before. He lay unconscious, his once bright eyes closed, his face pale and still. The doctors had discovered the truth too late—a brain tumor, hidden and insidious, had been the cause of his blackout and the source of all the inexplicable symptoms he'd been experiencing.
Caroline Kingsley stood in the cold, sterile hospital room, her perfectly manicured nails tapping impatiently against the side of the bed. The dim light cast long shadows on the walls, but she hardly noticed. Her eyes were fixed on Tucker's lifeless body, but instead of sorrow, a seething anger churned within her.
