Chapter 1

"Caleb, Roxy, Sage, Cory! Come on! We need to go! My mom won't wait forever!" I yell as my friends and cousin try and keep up with me. "Kai not all of us are as fast as you! Slow down!" My bestie/lil sister yells back at me as I rounded the corner of the street and see my house.

I run into my yard and see the bonfire already starting up. "Damn Kai how are you that fast?!" Roxy says with the rest of my friends agreeing. "You should see her when she gets excited about a storm!" Cory says as they ruffle my hair that's in a messy bun.

I roll my eyes at them as I hear my mom laugh. "Ma! Don't agree with Cory!" I say as all of us get to my porch. "Well she's not wrong. Every time a storm hits you always go outside and look up into the sky." My mom said when she was done setting papers in the fire.

I sigh and go up the stairs of my porch. "I'll be back. I need to grab my laptop." I say when I reach my door. "Oh no the nerd is nerding out. Watch out!" Caleb says sarcastically. "Can you blame her? Look at the sky! It looks like a storm is going to hit!" My mom said as she takes a drink of her pop.

I roll my eyes as I go inside and go to my room and grab my laptop. I open it and I see it's already on the weather app. I smile and go back out. "What's up? Everything alright with the weather? Huh weather girl?" Sage asks as she smiles up at me. "Just a rain storm from how it's looking." I answer back sitting down next to her.

"Oh great! I just got the fire going!" Ma says as she throws her hands up in defeat. "Mama it could always pass right by us!" Sage says leaning on Roxy's right shoulder while Caleb leaned on her left. "Kai! How's it looking? Will it pass right by us?" Cory asks as she leans next to me trying to take a look at my laptop.

"Probably not. It looks like it's coming in strong!" I answer back as I look at the way the storm is coming. "Yeah the wind is starting to pick up. How about y'all get inside while I try to get this fire out." Ma says as she grabs the bucket of water and starts to set the fire out.

"Alright ma! Come on y'all" I say as I stand up  with all of them following. I went to turn around still looking at my laptop. I freeze midway through turning as I see a hook start to form. "Kai everything alright? You look pale." Sage says as she comes over to me rubbing my back.

I shook my head as I look up and went inside. 'it could be a dud.' I think to myself as I plop down in my recliner and keep looking at the storm. "Turn on the weather channel." I say as Roxy grabs the remote. "Are you sure everything is alright Kai?" Caleb asks as he looks at me with concern.

"Yeah just do it." I say as I lean back still looking at my laptop see that it formed. "Everyone get to the bathroom." I say as I stand up and run to my bathroom with everyone behind me.

All of a sudden the power goes out. I hear the door open but slam shut because of the wind. "Ow! Son of a bitch!" Ma says as she reaches the bathroom. I'm in the bathroom tub with sage on top of me. The other 3 are on the floor by the sink and toilet.

I feel my mom get on top of me and sage to protect us. I barely can see what's happening but I do see the wall that has Caleb, Roxy and Cory by get ripped off. "NO!" I yell as sage slams me back down. Tears start rolling down my face as I scream to let me out.

10 minutes pass before I hear it stop. My mom gets off me and sage. Sage sits up as I crawl onto the floor. I stand up and jump out of the hole where the wall was. "Oh my God. This is bad." I whisper falling to my knees and scream my lungs out for my friends.
