Smoke clouded the battlefield and the groans from troopers could be heard as they hauled themselves up.

Hunter's lungs were on fire, his eyes irritated.
Underneath his armor, his blacks were soaked with sweat, the heat from the explosion burning his skin. As he pulled himself up to his feet, he froze.
Ruby was nowhere to be seen.
Tearing his helmet off, he urgently looked around, hoping to catch sight of her. The other men must've realized that their Jedi was missing and started to search and call out for her.

Up ahead, the sergeant barely managed to make out the outline of Kenobi dragging something along with her. No; someone.

Hunter rushed over and his blood ran cold when he caught sight of Kate Serene's bloodied face, her robes tattered and torn. He tried to pry Kate out of Ruby's grasp, but she only held on tighter. "D-dying...she's dying..." Ruby croaked, finally releasing her comrade. Hunter checked for a pulse; it was there but weak.

"CORIC!" He shouted, grabbing the attention of the 212th's medic. Coric rushed over with two other troopers, that had a stretcher and helped General Serene onto it. They took her away to get treated, leaving Hunter alone with Ruby.
She was on her knees, idly staring off into the distance as the sergeant knelt to her level. He moved the hair covering her face to see her blue eyes glossy.
"Oh, Ruby..." He muttered.

She crashed into his arms, sobbing into his shoulder. He quietly shushed her, rubbing her back comfortingly until she calmed down a bit. Carefully, he scooped her up into his arms, mindful of any possible injuries she might have.

"Don't worry, Cyar'ika. I've got you..."
