Hey everyone!
I've been thinking about ways to make our journey together even more fun and interactive. What would you think if I started posting twice a week? I'm also considering adding a little challenge at the end of each chapter—a riddle for you all to solve! 🕵️♀️
The first person to answer correctly in the comments would get a special shoutout in the next chapter. It's just a small way to say thank you for being such amazing readers!
Let me know what you think—would you be up for the challenge?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
*************I woke up at Kevin's place, the early morning light filtering through the curtains. I glanced at him still asleep beside me and quietly slipped out of couch, careful not to disturb him. I gathered my things and dressed quickly, my thoughts already shifting to the busy day ahead.
Once I was dressed, I left his house as quietly as I had arrived. The crisp morning air felt refreshing against my skin, and I took a deep breath, trying to clear my mind. The walk home gave me a moment to reflect, but the reality of the day hit me as I stepped through my front door.
I quickly showered and dressed, slipping into a pair of jeans and a comfortable blouse. The routine of getting ready seemed almost normal, but the underlying tension from the previous night lingered. I focused on getting to university, determined to maintain some semblance of normalcy.
At the university, I settled into my desk in the study hall, setting up test papers and organizing my materials. As I worked, Maddie breezed into the room, her energy infectious. Her face lit up with a bright smile as she approached me.
"Girl, you will not believe what happened to me!" she exclaimed, plopping down in the chair across from me. Her face was lit up with a wide grin, and I couldn't help but smile at her energy.
"Okay, spill," I said, leaning back in my chair.
"So, I met this amazing guy! Like, seriously, where has he been all my life?" Maddie gushed, leaning forward conspiratorially. "We went out last night, and I swear, Denise, he's perfect. Funny, smart, and he actually listens when I talk. Can you believe that?"
I laughed, shaking my head. "Sounds like you've got yourself a keeper."
She sighed dreamily, but then her expression shifted, turning more serious. "But enough about me. What the hell has been going on with you? You've been completely MIA, and I'm worried."
I bit my lip, hesitating for a moment before answering. "Yeah, things have been a little crazy. Preston's out of the coma, and it's been... a lot to handle."
Maddie's face immediately twisted into a scowl at the mention of Preston. "Ugh, that jerk. I can't believe you're still dealing with his crap. You deserve so much better than him, Denise. You know that, right?"
I looked down at my hands, fiddling with the edge of the papers. "I know, Maddie. But it's complicated."
She rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed. "Complicated, my ass. That guy put you through hell. I can't stand the thought of you being tied to him. You deserve to be happy."
I took a deep breath, deciding to tell her what had been weighing on my mind. "Actually... there's something I need to tell you. Kevin asked me to be his girlfriend, and I said yes."
