Oliver
He slapped a flying french fry out of the air, pointing at Blake with his milk carton.
"You waste one more french fry and I'm calling your mother."
His friend gasped dramatically, a hand clutching his chest.
"You wouldn't dare."
"Try me."
Blake pouted, resting his face in his hand as he leaned against the table.
"You never pull the call card so early. Everything okay?"
"Everything's fine."
Not really.
He was annoyed at everything. Scarlet not wanting him to know who she was, never getting any privacy at home, Jackson talking to his ex even with the threat of an ass whooping. He glanced down the table at his cousin, who had Brianna sitting in his lap, nearly violating all the pda laws known to man.
His cousin was truly a prick.
He looked past Blake, over at Skylar. She was sitting alone, like she had been since the breakup. Usually she sat at their table. But now, she always sat by herself. Didn't she have any friends in this lunch period? She was watching Jackson, and he couldn't help but feel sorry for her. No one deserved that. She looked so sad. She suddenly stood up, grabbing her bag and her tray. He watched her walk across the cafeteria, dumping her tray and heading down the hall.
"I'll be right back. Watch my stuff?"
"Sure." Blake sighed, reaching over and grabbing what was left of his chicken tenders.
He rolled his eyes and got up, heading in the direction she'd gone. He needed to apologize to her anyway, for yesterday. He probably came off as some asshole who just didn't want to give her a ride. She was sitting down in the hall on her phone.
"Hey Skylar."
She immediately hid her phone, looking down the hall at him as he walked over.
"Oh. Hi." She mumbled, quickly standing.
"You okay?"
She nodded, a smile on her face that was obviously fake.
"Um... I wanted to apologize. Yesterday, if I seemed rude-"
"You didn't."
He nodded, sticking his hands into his pockets, absently bouncing on his heels.
"I'm sorry. About what happened with you and Jackson."
She looked away, shrugging.
"A blessing in disguise, I guess."
She probably didn't even know how much of one. That was the most he'd heard her say, and weirdly it sounded familiar. But of course it did. She'd been sitting at their table for over a year. Of course her voice would be familiar. He'd been hearing her in the background for a long time.
"You deserve alot better."
"You think so?" She whispered, and he nodded.
Anyone deserved better than Jackson. Except maybe Brianna. She was pretty awful too.
"Absolutely. You could do ten times better than him."
She sighed, looking up at him.
"Do you know how long?"
"What?"
"How long he was cheating on me?"
He stilled, letting his feet fall back to the floor. So she did know.
