Statues of Time

Chapter 2

It is currently 6:56 am and I am waiting for our Mr. Cooper to just barge in and maybe just maybe have an interesting event that is worth sharing with us. As if on cue he barges in and looks like he's out of breath

"Good morning students, apologies for being late but I have some news" oh? I am intrigued "the sculpting competition will take place next week and there have been a selected few who were chosen to participate"

Now I am interested and I cannot wait to inform Nora of the wonderful news that was just given.

It is now break time and I rush to the yard only to see that Nora was nowhere to be found, so I wait as I lean on the metal fence that separates the two institutions. It's well 23 minutes into break time and she has not made her appearance yet, to be completely honest I am actually disappointed. As I was about to stand and leave I saw other girls wandering around the yard so I called out to them, they looked at me with that one look women give disgusting men I feel a bit offended by their looks.

"Have you two seen a girl named Nora Lewis?" they look shocked a bit "why would a boy such as yourself be looking for a girl like Nora Lewis? She's not even that pretty"

I felt angered by her comment on Nora "how could you say that about her she is a very beautiful and well-mannered woman" the two scoffed "if that's what you even call a woman" she said under her breath but just enough for me to hear "what did you just say." They both looked at me with fear, like she had seen a wild animal in the forest and she woke it up. She did. After a while they both went back to their rooms and so did I. Hopefully I don't get in trouble.

A few minutes more then our classes would finally end, but alas my train of thought was disrupted by Mr. Cooper's announcement

"Now before you all go the following students shall stay for they will participate in the upcoming competition" my eyes perked up and I was for once actually listening properly waiting for him to continue. As I ignored the other names that were being called I finally heard mine

"and finally William von Reed but-" what? But what? "William will be replaced by Fred Adams for I want this school to have a PROPER reputation"

I looked at him with rage. And I looked at Fred with raging eyes that could murder someone if they could.

I went out of the school and onto the school where Nora resides, as I knocked on the door the gardener who was cleaning up the bushes asked me what I wanted

"Have you seen Nora Lewis?" he shook his head and said, "she moved school just this morning" that alone was able to break my heart to multiple pieces. "I see. Sorry to bother you then" and I walked at a slow pace trying to process everything.

As I was going home I came by Fred Adams the guy who took my position and as I looked at him rage took over. I ran up to him "Hey! 

Fred, right?" he nodded "would you like to come with me? And you know how to hang out?" Fred had no friends. He was always so quiet yet one of Mr. Cooper's favorites "sure" but little did he know he was in for a ride.

We went to an abandoned building, it was currently out of the government's hands so people go here to do all types of stuff such as...you know? Never mind that.

"What are we doing here? I thought we were going to 'hangout'?"

"We are. Don't worry this is where my friends used to take me when they'd ask me to hangout with them" an obvious lie.

"Oh ok. Well what do you wish to do here?"

"Just stand over there" I point to the concrete seat

"Ok" he looks nervous...good.

I look at him one more time and pity him. I'm joking, pity is for people who are naive and weak. I learned that lesson years ago when I was 16, I didn't need people's sympathy. And after one more look I turned my back on him and removed my hat which revealed my shoulder length hair and removed the hair clips keeping the sides of my hair in place. As I turned back I saw his face and he was standing up.

"YOU'RE A WOMAN?!" he yelled almost in a whisper out of fear I believe.

"What? You've never noticed?" I walk around him in circles

"Women aren't supposed to cross-dress and they certainly aren't allowed in the Institution for men!" I felt disappointed

"I'm a bit disappointed Fred. Of all people I thought you'd be different from them. Too sad." And after that I pushed him

He never expected to see a false floor covered by a rug behind him and as he fell through he fell through a pit full of cement that made him fit perfectly.

I walked down to him, looking at him in pain because the pressure of landing in wet cement is quite painful for a rigid boy like him. I took out a knife from my boot and looked at him one more time.

"They'll never know." I said to him one last time "They...may not." he struggled saying "But you will..."

I looked at the horizon thinking about what he said and without a second thought I lifted up my knife and drove it through his jugular vein. Yes I know anatomy is one of the perks of doing what you love. Studying.

I went home with blood all over my hands. I took my bloodied knife and threw it over the fire to burn whatever there is left of him. And that's when the idea struck me...I can still make it to the competition after all my name was on the list, but how am I going to get such a big piece of stone for my piece then it hit me...Fred. The competition is 2 weeks from now and the cement dries in 24 hours so I can wait for 2 days to make sure it dries properly too as well as the blood preserved in it, It was a good thing I covered him with cement too and with the position of him in the cement I can carve him out as my piece, I'll just change his face to avoid arousing suspicion. I wish I could still see Nora. She'd be disappointed or horrified at me if she saw me right now.

I don't want her to look at me like that.
