that time of the month

The interview day was referred to as that time of the month by the employees of Hwacheong.

The entire office knew whom to not to talk to. Miraculously all the old, clumsy paper work would be thrown out, walls and staircases polished with a fresh layer of acrylic paint, new tealights would be installed and bulbs replaced. Beomgyu was however not a fan of the paint, it smelled like plastic. If there was something more deeply infuriating in the office other than his boss , it was meeting a devil with a sweet face, additional coordinator choi soobin.

He was very particular about his food and hated having a change in the office menu during that time of the month, especially since the menu was revised by Yeonjun to specifically cater to those employees who often forgot to eat during work. It might look like a kind gesture , but Soobin was not a fan of big, chunky pieces of overcooked chicken in his fried rice that his mouth took extra long to process the dash of extra protein. It was a nightmare to chew and a bigger nightmare to swallow. He 100 percent doesn't recommend it , and is on his way to meet his partner in crime, Kang Taehyun.

He was the only person whom he smiled at or was genuinely seen laughing with. His eyes scan Beomgyu who isn't Taehyun, frowns and walks past him completely ignoring him.

"Sir! ", Beomgyu calls for his attention.

Soobin ignores him.

As usual.

"Sir, you're coordinating the interview today. Boss wants you to take care of the candidates!", he screams in the hallway itself, assuming that was the least he could do to get his attention. Choi soobin isn't usually like that, despite accurately showing period mood swings, he turns around and walks towards him.

"Tell me what my designation is in this company?", he asks the tight lipped employee by holding his shoulders, leaning close to him intimidatingly.

Beomgyu takes a moment to answer. He gulps in nervously before attempting to answer.

"Se-senior manager, you are a senior manager "

"And what am I now?", he asks him again.

"An additional coordinator for the interview", Beomgyu answers diligently.

"It probably isn't obvious to you but I need to work here to get back to my position as a senior manager , go find someone else, if not, coordinate the interview yourself. Get going now" , Soobin says, monotonically with little to no variation in his voice as though some demon had raided his shoulders. Beomgyu gulps.

Perhaps he was going to end working overtime today as well.

"Yessir , right on it!", he smiles, through pain, but still smiles.

Soobin leaves after that. Beomgyu pities him. There was probably  a certain prototype for the people who worked in Hwacheong, strict, mean, snooty opportunities looking out for their own benefits. He was still new to the world full of selfishness, greed, money hungry dystopia. Despite that, Soobin fed him a meal one summer midnight and he was always grateful to him for that.

Soobin's mood lights up when he meets his bestie, Taehyun. Kang Taehyun is a heavenly man with fading blond hair, scrumptious little pair of blueberry eyes, dimples, a fine jawline and lips as sweet and glossy like the caramel on popcorn.

Soobin and Taehyun were like the Rigby and Mordecai of Hwacheong, they were always together , even at the scene of crime, would 100 percent blame the paranormal entities in the company for a lost file. The employees and the ghosts however kept their distance from messing with them. They were just two best friends who met during the interview session , Taehyun's hands cold and trembling in nervousness and he put them into Soobin's warm , constipated hands out of anxiety for comfort. They both passed the interview in one shot and have been close ever since.
