Vixen

It seems to be tradition that I keep things from Ali that involve Harrison. The first time was when we hooked up in the sauna. The second was when I was texting him and starting to develop a crush, even if I wouldn't admit it to myself. The third? I have yet to confess that he is my boyfriend.

At first, it starts as a good idea to not tell Ali. Though, I can't help but love to gossip with him. I also am not much of a secret-keeper. So, even though I put it off, in the end, I always tell him.

So, as we have our usual cup of coffee before work at the crew coffee shop, I decide now is as good a time as any. I mean, 5:30 in the morning is clearly a great time for revealing my huge scandal.

Okay, not a scandal, but my point is made.

"God," Ali begins with a yawn, "I so wish I was a morning person. Like if I could have any superpower, it would have to be that."

"Ali, since when is being a morning person a superpower?" I laugh at him, chugging down my iced caramel macchiato.

"Because anyone who can wake up this early and not yawn every ten seconds or need to consume five cups of coffee every day to stay awake is clearly superhuman."

Now why does that kind of make sense?

"You know what, you're right. That's the perfect superpower."

"Exactly." My friend grins in satisfaction. "What would yours be?"

I think to myself for a moment. As a kid, I would have probably said something like teleportation or telekinesis. Something basic and simple. Though, Ali's answer has inspired me to think beyond the standard superpower.

"To cut vegetables and fruit perfectly every time."

Ali's eyebrows scrunch together in confusion before his face switches into complete amusement. He genuinely bursts into laughter at me. Fine, I deserve it after finding his preferred superpower dumb.

"Oh, you're serious?" He asks when I keep a straight face.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

"Well then, why did you choose that as your power?"

"I've told you before that I love cooking, and have you ever tried to julienne a carrot, or chop up a pineapple? It's not as easy as it sounds."

"Fair enough," he says, trying to hide his grin.

I take another sip of my drink. "I was going to tell you something you probably would like to know, but now, I'm not so sure. You're making fun of me."

"No, no, I just didn't expect that is all!" Ali defends. "Please tell me."

I roll my eyes but know I'll still tell him.

"I... Uh... Harrison and I are... dating," I admit.

Ali's eyes go wide, and he almost spits out his coffee. Not the reaction I was expecting.

"What? For how long?"

We've been together for just over a week now, and it has been very good. I know. One week is nothing. It's the honeymoon phase, but I'm hoping we don't ever leave that. I'm learning so many things about Harrison.

He is a clean-freak. If there's even a speck of dust floating about the room, he'll go nuts. I find it cute. He must have his clothes ironed before putting them on. Wrinkles drive him mad. When he's laughing really hard, his nose scrunches up in the most adorable way. When I unintentionally roll away from him in my sleep, he pulls me right back up against his chest. He won't admit it to me, but I know he prefers being the little spoon once in awhile.
