Authors POV

The following day was spent fully immersed in research from Alex Albano on the new arrivals from Spain. His detailed work led him into some weird surprises; among which was Milana - a freshman college student in Italy. Flipping through records and cross-checking with known mafia members, Alex soon discovered that Milana was in fact the daughter of a Spanish mafia underboss.

Alex quickly called Leo to his office to discuss the finding.

"We got a problem, Leo," Alex said gravely. "I've been going through the lists of those who entered Italy from Spain, and I came across a young woman by the name Milana. As it would turn out, she happens to be the daughter of a Spanish mafia underboss. This is one lead to sit up and take notice of.".

Leo frowned at his father. "Milana? I've met her around. She works at a coffee shop. So, what's the big deal?"

"She's been living in Italy incognito," Alex said. "If her father is associated with the mafia, she might have some information or contacts we could speak to."

Determined, Leo said, "I'll handle it. I will get her in for questioning."

Milana had just come out of her first college day and was walking to the café to work; she had mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness as she settled into her routine. Down the street, Leo watched her from across. Her heart skipped a beat when her eyes met Leo's; the look was unwholesome with an intensity to it.

Leo, being wise, having sensed her reaction when she laid eyes on Luca, pressed on with his plan. Being close to her all along, he noted another difference in her response. He understood that one change rendered him even more resolute. In a split moment, Leo sprinted toward her and pulled her into the van as Milana acted late. She squirmed, but he overpowered her and injected the sedative first.

The next thing Milana knew, she was waking up in an unfamiliar room. The space is sumptuous, yet icy, and found herself locked inside a huge, luxurious bedroom within the Albano mansion. Leo had arranged for her to be constantly observed watching her every move through the CCTV system at the mansion from his office.

Leo's Office

Leo was sitting in his office, watching the feed from the cameras. His mind went on all scenarios and possibilities of what Milana might confess. He was sure that she knew something about her father's operation. He paced up and down building up frustration.

Leo was talking into the phone, "Keep a close eye on her. I want to know if she makes some suspicious movement or tries to contact anyone."

Bedroom

Milana slowly gained consciousness, and her pounding head and blurry vision did little to clear her senses much. Finally, as she tried to come to some kind of comprehension about where she was, panic struck her. And the luxurious room now only served to capture her feeling more tragically. The door was locked and had no windows to permit even a glimmering light of freedom.

And the next moment, Leo stepped into the room, with an imposing presence. "Good morning, Milana. Hope you're feeling much better. I am Leo Albano, and we need to talk."

Milana's heart was racing, going through the reality of the situation heartily. She looked up, but not a single word was coming from her, and all she could whisper came in tremors.

"Please, what is it? Why have I been brought here? I don't know!"

Milana cried, panicking.

Leo kept his cool but steady. "We have reason to believe you're connected to the Spanish mafia. We've identified you as the daughter of one of their underbosses. We need information about your father's operations.".

Milana was crying with open arms; only now had she realised the full extent of her situation: "No, you don't understand! My father is just a businessman. He's in construction, not the mafia. I swear to God he has nothing to do with all that-and I came here to study and live normally".

He narrowed his eyes as he considered her words. "You expect me to believe that? Everything puts a pin on the fact that you are connected. The connections your father has and your being here may just be because you may know something of value.".

Milana pleaded desperately, "You have to believe me! I am not telling you lies! My father works in the construction business. He built up his career from scratch; he's a very good man. I don't know why I'm being punished. I just want to be returned to my former life!

Leo's voice was icily tough. "We have our reasons, Milana. Your reaction when you saw Luca, your background-all of that points toward there being more to your story. If you don't cooperate, things will only get worse for you.".

Milana screamed with tears and howled, "Please, no! I'm begging you. I don't know anything. All I wanted was a new life. I've just enrolled in college. I'm trying to make a life for myself. I have nothing to do with all this. Please, just let me go!

Leo said firmly but with a hint of hesitation. "You are staying here until we can rid ourselves of that suspicion. We must get to the bottom of this. Your father's contacts may be just what we need."

Milana fell to the ground, her voice cracking. "Please don't do this. Please just let me go. I don't know anything about the mafia. I swear, I'm just a normal student. If you let me go, I'll do everything in my power to help you, but please believe me—I have no part in all of this.".

Leo stared back at her, his face twisted in turmoil. The desperation that clung to her tone, the intensity in her eyes, was the thing that roused a part of him, but it also made all of it so much harder for him to bear, to withstand the call to delve into truth and the pressure of this circumstance.

"I am not taking any risks on you," Leo continued sternly. "You are staying here, well monitored until we corroborate your stories. If you're lying, then this is over. But until then, you are not going anywhere."

The hours ticked by and Milana was left to her thoughts, wracked by a different mix of fear and confusion and a faint hope of someone coming to find her and rescue her from this hell.
