"Lily was a little girl
Afraid of the big, wide world
She grew up within her castle walls
Now and then, she tried to run
And then on a night with the setting sun
She went in the woods away
So afraid, all alone
They warned her, don't go there
There's...

"They warned her, don't go there There's creatures who are hidin' in the dark Then somethin' came creepin' It told her, "Don't you worry, " just Follow everywhere I go Top of all the mountains or valley low Give you everything you've been dreamin' of Just let me in, ooh Everything you want in gold I'll be the magic story you've been told And you'll be safe under my control Just let me in, ooh"

Lily Gilbert was the complete opposite of her twin, Elena.
Elena wanted to be a doctor, Lily wanted to be a singer. Elena wanted to stay in Mystic Falls forever, Lily wanted to travel the world. Elena threw herself into being a cheerleader, and into being popular, Lily threw herself into her studies and graduated High School at the age of 15.
After Graduating High School Lily got emancipated and then fled from town. She went out to California, got a record deal and spent the next three years traveling around the world as she played her music, and lived her dream.
Then she met a man. He had ginger brown hair, dark blue eyes, and a British accent, he had a sense of danger that followed him, something that Lily felt drawn too. It wasn't long after they met one night at a club that Lily found herself in love with the man.
But over time it changed. The more they dated the sadder he got, until one day it suddenly changed. She didn't know why but he suddenly had a spark back in his eyes, but she wasn't complaining.
And then she found out he was a vampire, and she told him she was a witch. Something she found out when she was nine, and spent her whole life learning how to control with the town witch, Sheila Bennett.
And then one day he showed up on her door step, upset, and rambling. He told her the truth about him, about his family, about why he really started dating her, about how he ended up falling in love with her and then found out she had a twin, and how he was going to use her for the sacrifice instead, and about so much other stuff. By the end of the night they were both crying, Lily had locked herself in the bathroom as he stood on the other side of the door, begging her to come out and talk to him.
When she finally left the bathroom they argued. He was begging her not to leave him, she was trying to throw him out, in the end it ended with him begging her to marry him, trying to prove how much he did love her, and her telling him to shove the ring where the sun doesn't shine, magically snapping his neck, packing her stuff and then running away.
Running away to the small town she spent her whole life trying to run away from.
She missed her parents funeral, so she knew she wasn't going home to a happy twin sister. But she was surprised to be welcomed home by her brother and aunt so warmly.
And then came the masquerade ball, and everyone quickly started changing for the doppelganger.
For better and for worse.
