Erik's POV
"Spit it out son" my father demands as I was puking up pills in the bathroom sink. My chest was burning from how many times I've coughed in the last three minutes and my eyes water from the pressure. As I'm still coughing, my father hits my back with his hand to try and speed up the process but I felt like I was about to pass out. The impact of his hand was the only thing keeping me conscious.

"I'm sorry dad" I mumbled once I was over my coughing spell. "Let's go. Why are you back on those pills son?" He questions as I look at myself in the mirror before me. "I don't know. I'm sorry dad" he rolls his eyes then leaves the bathroom. "I'm going to the drugstore. Clean yourself up for school now." I nodded as he leaves the room. Man this is so hard to quit.

Shortly after my dad left and I was now starting a new day at a new school. I just turned 17 so I had to transfer to a new school.

"We have a new student, today class.
Please give a warm welcome to Erik Draven!" The kind English teacher, Mrs. Daniels says as I stood up in front of my class. I was so scared with everyone staring at me and making faces as I play with my fingers as they dangle on the sides of my pants. Nervously I clear my throat and introduce myself.

" Hello, My name is Erik Draven. I'm 17 years old. I live with my father here in Maine and we have lived here for about three years." I barely said as Mrs. Daniel's smiles. "Oh how nice, Erik! What do your parents do? " she asks as I gulped. I didn't want to tell this story. "Well... Six years ago my mother, Lisa Draven died while walking late at night. She was hit by a drunk driver and till this day, my father has never been the same. I remember my mother very well, we were super close when I was a young boy. We did everything together, but sadly that was taken from me at the age of ten. Now it's just me and my dad Josh Draven, he's an attorney during the day and is with me for most evenings.... uh I don't really have anything else to say." I said before sitting down at my desk uncomfortable as everyone continued to stare at me. "I'm so sorry to hear that, Erik. I bet she's smiling down at you and your father from above. " I nod and give a small smile before she looks up the entire class. "Alright class, today we will be studying poetry" I kinda zoned out and was bored throughout the rest of today's classes....

LUNCH
I don't eat at school because my dad told me not to and the food has unhealthy ingredients. I don't know how truthful that is but I try follow his rules.

I sit down against the wall and pull out a granola bar to eat. As I unwrap it, I see a group of three students, two boys one girl, eating a few tables down from me. I look over, just wondering what they were engaging in with each other. As I take a bite, one of the boys looks at me with a look of disgust. I just stare back, not looking to start trouble with the boy, but he took it the wrong way and yelled. "LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE FREAK!" I don't say anything I just didn't loose eye contact with him. "You wanna fight me man?" I just shake my head and slowly stand up.
I was just curious about them, but they clearly weren't about me so I stood up to my feet and walk off down the hallway.

Hours later of what felt like an eternity, the bell finally rings and dismisses us from class. I grab my books off my desk and quickly make my way out of the classroom. I jog down the hallway and try to find the nearest exit. I needed to get out of here.

Eventually I get outside and away from all the kids just waiting for the bus or my Dad to come pick me up. He usually drove me home after school. During the time of waiting, I pull out my phone. No texts. No shocker. I don't have any friends, even from my past schools, yeah I talked to people but no one was that interested in talking to me. Usually I was invited to a school gathering and recognized a couple kids, other than that I'm just entertaining myself.

A few minutes later, I see Dad's black car pull up. He was wearing his sunglasses and a motionless face as he pulls up to the curb. I look at the sidewalk for a minute then back at the car as he comes to a complete stop. Removing my backpack from my shoulder, I open the passenger side door and climb inside. "Hey dad" I mumbled setting my bag on the floor and closing my door. "Hi son, how was school?" He asks intensively, but that was always his tone so I'm used to it. "Ok. How was work?" I asked quickly changing the subject.
"Good, we won the case today so I thought we'd celebrate. " he says pulling out of the school parking lot.
"Oh congrats dad. Are you going with Jake? " Jake was my father's boss, usually they go out to dinner with some coworkers and celebrate. "Not this one. I actually was thinking about celebrating with you." I was shocked at my father's words, he wanted to celebrate with me?
"Really dad, you want me to go with you? " I almost whispered as he pulls onto the main road. "Well you are my son and we haven't done anything together since your mother died so why not?" I nodded as we come to a comfortable silence. I wonder where we're going to celebrate?
