'Do you have everything?' My mom asks me. I nod. 'Could you at least say something to me, Isabella? You're acting like it was my decision to move when you know it was not!' She says frustrated. She rarely ever calls me by my full name, it's always Isa or some sort of nickname. I know she's just as frustrated about all of this as I am. She grew up in Moon Village but left the city as she got an amazing job offer in Boston. Unfortunately enough, they weren't able to renew her contract. Something about the company not having enough money.. I stopped listening the second she told me we had to move. I know she didn't want any of this either. She was happy with our home in Boston, she really liked Boston. I sigh. 'Yes, mother. I have everything. The house is fully empty and we can leave this beautiful city, to go to the most lame village ever.' I reply. I have been there before, a couple of times even. Mainly during the holidays as my grandparents wanted to have us over for a Christmas meal. That was until they both passed away not too long ago. I have fun memories there and wished they could have just stayed exactly that; memories. However, my grandparents left us their home, which we were planning on keeping a vacation spot until we heard the devastating news. Luckily enough, it did not take long for my mom to find a new job. Sadly enough, the new job is in Moon Village. 'Great.' Is my mom's only reply, as she gets into her car. The only good part about all of this, is the fact that my mom knows a lot of people in town and that they can help with moving. As far as I know, most of the stuff is in the new home already. I get into the car and buckle my seatbelt. I'm not in the mood for yet another lecture about car safety and all. 'How long will the drive be anyway?' I mumble, as I look over at my mom. She checks her phone for the millionth time today, making sure everything is indeed all set up. She wanted my grandparents their home, to feel just like our home and hoped to do so, by bringing in all our old furniture. How does she ever expect that place to feel like our home back in Boston? It's a whole new place for gods sake! I bet they don't even have proper stores there, only local stores. 'Hello? Earth to miss Katherine Brown?' She looks up to me and frowns, as I called her by her full name. 'I asked how long will the drive be?' I repeat. 'Only sixteen hours.' She tries to mumble quietly. 'What?' I look at her in shock, as if she just commit the worst crime possible. 'Sixteen hours?' She nods. 'Sixteen hours.' She repeats and she sighs. 'We have no other choice, Isa.' I knew the village was quite far, but a sixteen hours drive kinda far? 'That is, however, including some breaks.. If that makes you feel any better about it.' She tries to cheer me up. 'Great.' I mumble. 'At least we'll have some time to get snacks then, right?' The only good part about it.. The snacks from the gas stations.
The drive went by quicker than I expected. Easier than I expected also. It did indeed took a bit over sixteen hours, but though my grumpy mood earlier, mom and I had a good time. We got a lot of snacks at the gas station and it felt like a little getaway. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always liked car rides. However, I never enjoyed having to sit still for that long. It was only afternoon as we arrived. My mom looks exhausted and even though I have slept during the car ride, I feel quite tired myself as well. The house was indeed all set and it feels very weird. It feels weird because I know this place as my grandparents their place and seeing our own stuff in it, feels weird. 'I wanna see my room.' I yell, as I rush upstairs. I got the biggest room, my grandparents their old bedroom. I won the rock-paper-scissors game my mom and I held and I can't stop rubbing it in her face. Though her room isn't that much smaller, it just feels like a little victory. I walk into my room and look around a bit. Luke, my moms friend whom I have met a couple of times before, set up everything for us. Which was extremely sweet, considering he has a whole company to run. Well, he owns the coffee corner nearby. The coffee corner my mom will be working at as well. The only thing I still needed to do, was unpack a couple of boxes, which I was not in the mood for at all honestly. I trace my finger down the wall. The wallpaper of my grandparents was still hanging here and I have no clue whether to change it, or to keep it. It looks cute, vintage but it feels odd keeping it. I decide to go back downstairs. 'Mom, is it okay if I walk around the town a bit?' I ask. My mom, though being exhausted, has already started unpacking some boxes. 'Alone?' She asks and I nod. 'I don't know anyone here.' I reply. Hence why I'm going all by myself. 'Perhaps that pizza place we used to go to is still here.' I say and she smiles. 'Take a twenty from my purse.' She says and I walk up to her purse. 'What if the place is no longer here?' I ask, whilst taking the twenty dollar bill from her purse. 'Then.. I don't know, find a different spot to get food from.' She replies and I nod. 'Just no pasta's please, you know what happened last time.' She got sick, the last time we ordered pasta. She vomited everywhere and it was absolutely disgusting. Ever since, she doesn't wanna eat pasta. 'No pasta. Noted.' I nod. 'I'll be out for a bit. I'm curious about all the stores. I'll be back on time though!' I promise her.
