The forest of concentrated dark magic in the region of Nartai is a place where not even a ray of sunlight can filter through the dense roots intertwining with the ground. In this perpetually nocturnal forest, the resources are tempting to both white magic users and hunters who blend into the environment.

Among the most notable creatures inhabiting this forest are the shapeshifters, beings whose scaly skin reflects dark tones of magic. The females range from deep black to cosmic blue, while the males range from black to galactic purple. They have the appearance of faceless wolf skulls, with visible orbital and nasal cavities but no discernible eyes. Small hairs protrude from the nape and descend their twisted necks, disappearing halfway down their backs.

These creatures use their four legs to move, although their claws and a thumb allow them to hunt, manipulate meat, and mark territory. They are excellent climbers, and their preferred hunting method is to ambush their prey from the trees. When they attack, victims witness a bright and blinding light before being consumed by their jaws full of sharp teeth.

Their diet mainly consists of sun fairies, creatures brimming with white magic that shine intensely. They also feed on black ferns that grow on the forest floor. Despite their ability to adopt human forms and blend among tribes, only the eldest can exactly mimic other living beings. It is said that they are often found wandering among villages, especially at night, when they use their abilities to go unnoticed.

Some believe they are responsible for mysterious disappearances or see them as omens of misfortune. Rumor has it that they can take the form of a weeping woman, a helpless child, or a desolate man to appear in front of houses and warn the inhabitants about their future. However, their true motivation remains a mystery.
