Aiden's Pov:

"Ashlyn!" I yell and rush towards her but I don't reach it time. She stares into my eyes as the ceiling falls on her, burying her.

"No! No, no, no!" I hear myself yelling desperately as I drop down and start digging through the pieces. No matter how much I dig and throw pieces away, I can't find her. Where is she?!

"Ash!" I yell one last time before I jolt awake.

I sit up in my bed, completely drenched in sweat even though it's pretty cold outside. My heart is racing and I still feel the desperation to find her but then realize it wasn't real. I should calm down, nothing happened. She's safe.

I lay back down a few minutes later and turn to the side. I toss and turn for a bit, unable to fall asleep again. Something is gnawing at me and i can't make it go away. I groan and smack my face with the pillow.

Picking up my phone, I find out there's 2 more hours before midnight. I hesitate but go to Ash's contact and send her a message. She doesn't reply though, which makes that sick feeling in my stomach grow. I can't stop thinking that something might have happened to her. What if she's hurt? What if my dream is real?

My thoughts race as I get up from my bed and rummage through my clothes and pull a hoodie on. Before I register fully what I'm doing, I find myself heading for her house. All the windows are dark though, so I can't go knocking on the front door.

I make my way to her window and quickly climb up. The thought that maybe I shouldn't be going knocking on people's windows as they're asleep enters my head but it's too late.

I knock once and then twice a few seconds later. On the third knock, I hear groaning from inside the room. A light turns on and a minute later an angry Ashlyn appears on the other side of the window. She lifts it up and glares at me, the sleep still evident on her face.

"What the hell Aiden? Why are you awake and why are you knocking on my window?" She whispers angrily and folds her arms over her chest, but I don't reply.

My eyes are running over her face, the sick feeling in my stomach fading away a little. Her hair isn't braided like usual and it's cascading down her back in pretty waves.

"Why aren't you saying anything? At least come inside, it's cold." She sighs and steps away so I can climb inside then shuts the window after me.

"What's wrong with you? Did something happen?" She stares at me with a frown on her face.

"You're okay." I state and I'm unable to take my eyes away from her. It feels like she might disappear.

"Why shouldn't i be? Did you hit your head?"

"I had a bad dream." I say as she moves to sit on the bed and gestures for me to sit down too. I start explaining the dream as I fiddle with the string of my hoodie.

"And i couldn't fall asleep because I had a feeling something might have happened so I wanted to make sure you were okay. You didn't answer my text so i had to come." I finish my explanation.

"And you didn't think i might just be asleep so that's why i'm not answering?" She says as she's looking at me with a raised brow.

"I did but i wanted to see you to calm down." I mumble and her expression softens a little.

"I guess that kind of makes sense."

We fall into a silence. A thought creeps in my mind and I hesitate to ask her.

"Can I hug you just for a second? I know you don't like that kind of thing, and especially from me but I still can't really shake the feeling."

I'm half expecting her to smack me and maybe push me out of the window. But after not saying anything for a bit, she sighs and to my huge surprise, agrees.

"Wait, really? You shouldn't agree if you feel uncomfortable. I want you to actually want to do something, not just because i wanted to."

"Aiden i know, it's fine." She reassures me and I feel a smile appear on my face.

I lean closer to her and wrap my hands lightly around her, careful not to make her uncomfortable in any way. Having her in my arms does make me feel better. She's okay.

Just as I'm about to let go she tightens her hold on me a little. I want to hold her in my arms forever.

After the hug is over I decide I should probably go. She deserves to rest a little more before we go back to the phantom dimension.

"Thanks Ash, I'll get going now. You should sleep. Sorry I woke you up." I say as I get up to leave. I look bak at her one last time but she's looking at the floor weirdly.

"Just stay here, it's way too cold outside to go back. Plus there's not much time before midnight so it's unnecessary to go back." She says with a small frown on her face, still not looking up at me. I notice her ears are a little red.

"Does Ashlyn actually want me to stay? The same Ash that might have broken my hand a while back the second I appeared at her window? To what do I owe such hospitality?" I joke and her ears turn really red. She gets up from the bed and pushes me towards the window.

"Go away, goodnight."

"Heyy, why are you kicking me out now? Come on, I'll freeze outside." I chuckle, as she opens the window, then turns around and goes back to her bed.

"Come on Ash. Don't be so harsh." I chuckle again.

"Fine. You can sleep on the floor."

"Aww but I'll be cold there." I close the window and then jump on her bed, almost throwing her off.

"What the hell Aiden. I should have pushed you out the window." She kicks my leg as I lay down.

"Let's sleep, I'm tired." I yawn and she finally gives up. After turning off the lights, she lays down with her back facing me. I take a curled strand of her hair and wrap it around my finger, watching it curl again.

After sitting in silence for a few minutes she turns around facing me. Exhaustion is taking over her and her eyes struggle to stay open. It's honestly the cutest thing I've seen.

"Go to sleep Ash." I mumble as I take my hand and lightly run my thumb over the freckles scattered on her cheeks. Her eyes are now closed and she's almost asleep.
Her face looks so peaceful and she looks so precious. I'm struck as I stare at her. Something takes over me and I lean closer to place a tiny kiss on her forehead. Suddenly I come back to my senses and almost apologize but I don't want to wake her up. To my surprise a few seconds later she shifts and snuggles a bit closer to me which causes me to freeze. I feel her fingers wrap around one of my hands and then she goes back to sleeping.

I realize I've been holding my breath but then I smile at her sleeping face. My hand wraps carefully around her and I finally feel the sleep overcoming me.

Author's note:

I'm sorry if that one's a bit bad😭 I didn't want it to be out of character for them but I also wanted to write that scenario. The next one's better, I promise.
