Just as I expected. Michelle and Paul were together as usual. Me and the girls had to walk past them to get to the drinks table.
"Hey stranger," I whispered, squeezing his bum as I walked past. Don't ask me why I did it but it felt great.
I glanced back, giving Paul one of my dazzling smiles. I was pleased to see him with a huge grin on his face while Michelle looked really annoyed. One nil to me then...
I threw my life and soul into that party. And it looked like it was paying off. Tina said Paul couldn't take his eyes off me and I must admit, I caught him staring at me more than once. But he still stayed with Michelle. Short of throwing myself at his feet and expressing my undying love for him, there was nothing I could do. Until I decided to involve Bradley.
"Please Brad, do it for me!"
"But I don't like her."
"I know but...please..."
"Why are you so desperate to get her away from Paul anyway?"
"Because I really need to talk to him. Please?"
Bradley sighed. "Okay, I'll do it. But only because it's you Han."
"Thanks B," I replied, kissing him on the cheek. "I owe you one."
"Whatever Han."
Bradley bless him, had just agreed to chat Michelle up so I could get my claws into Paul. It took a lot of persuasion on Bradley's part to drag her away from Paul. As soon as they'd moved off, I appeared out of nowhere and went in for the kill.
"So you've finally managed to get rid of her then?" I asked as I came to stand opposite him.
Paul laughed. "Come on Spun, she's not that bad."
I pretended I didn't hear that. "But I never get the chance to be with you when she's around," I pouted.
"And why would you wanna do that?" he asked with amusement. "I got the impression that you'd been avoiding me". He raised his eyebrows at me, as if daring me to argue against him.
God he looked so sexy. Even when he was pretending to be annoyed with me. He was wearing black suit pants and a crisp white shirt with his top 2 buttons open. He wore a tie loosely around his neck. He was wearing the same aftershave as the other night and I couldn't help but smile when I realised it was the same one I had brought him last Christmas. "Of course I'm not!" I smiled back at him, punching him on the arm.
He laughed again and our eyes met. Suddenly his smile disappeared and his expression turned serious. I saw the same intense look that was in his eyes the other night when we were playing Twister. "Hannah - I want to say that I think you look absolutely..."
Somebody switched the lights on. Talk about ruining the moment. I looked down and to my horror I realized that I'd been clutching his shirt while I was talking to him. I pulled my hand away quickly but from the look on his face, I think he'd already noticed.
The reason for the lights was Simon Fuller. His ill-timed entrance had just ruined what could have been the best moment of my whole life.
I'd no idea why it was always such a big deal whenever he turned up anywhere. On this occasion he even made a little speech. I know he's my boss but I think it's pathetic. Paul and I stood next to each other and listened to what he was saying. Well, Paul listened. I was concentrating too much on slowing my racing heartbeat down! Being this close to Paul was proving to be more and more difficult.
By the time Simon had been whisked away by a doting Priscilla, Michelle was back by Paul's side. I gave her my dirtiest look and faced Paul. "So what were you gonna tell me before we were rudely interrupted Paul? You think I look absolutely what?"
