Rainbow Dash zoomed through the sky, leaving a streak of rainbow in her wake. The wind whipped against her mane as she performed daring flips and spins, pushing herself faster and faster. Today, though, her usual exhilaration was tinged with something different-something that made her heart race in a way that wasn't just from flying. It was all because of Pinkie Pie.
Lately, Rainbow Dash found herself looking forward to their hangouts more than ever. Pinkie's bubbly laughter, her boundless energy, and that smile-oh, that smile-made Dash feel like she could take on the world. But no matter how brave Rainbow Dash was in the sky, confronting these feelings on the ground felt... different.
"I'm the fastest flyer in Equestria!" Rainbow muttered to herself. "I can handle a little crush... right?"
She swooped down towards Sugarcube Corner, where Pinkie was busy setting up for one of her many parties. Today's theme? Cupcakes. Not that it was much of a theme; Pinkie just loved cupcakes.
As Rainbow Dash landed, Pinkie bounced out of the bakery, a tray of freshly frosted cupcakes balanced precariously on her head. Her blue eyes sparkled as she caught sight of her friend.
"Dashie! You made it!" Pinkie exclaimed, dropping the tray onto a nearby table without spilling a single cupcake. "I was just about to take a break. Wanna join me?"
Rainbow Dash grinned, trying to play it cool. "You know it! I never miss a chance to hang out with my favorite party pony."
Pinkie giggled and offered Rainbow Dash a cupcake, her smile so wide that it made Rainbow's heart skip a beat. They sat down together on the grass outside the bakery, enjoying the warm afternoon sun. As they chatted about this and that, Rainbow Dash felt the familiar flutter in her chest whenever Pinkie was close.
But how could she tell Pinkie how she really felt? What if it ruined everything?
"Dashie, are you okay?" Pinkie's voice snapped Rainbow Dash out of her thoughts. "You're being all quiet and stuff, which is super-duper not like you."
Rainbow Dash blinked, realizing she'd been staring at Pinkie for a bit too long. "Uh, yeah! I'm fine! Just... thinking about my next stunt."
Pinkie squinted at her suspiciously, then broke into a grin. "You're thinking about that Sonic Rainboom again, aren't you? You love showing off!"
Rainbow Dash chuckled nervously, relieved that Pinkie bought the excuse. "Yeah, something like that."
As the day went on, Rainbow Dash couldn't shake the feeling that she needed to be honest with Pinkie. But whenever she tried to bring it up, her words got caught in her throat. So instead, she did what she did best: she avoided it, letting the afternoon pass by in a blur of laughter and sugary treats.
