Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie were enjoying another sunny afternoon together. They were strolling through Ponyville after grabbing some milkshakes at Sugarcube Corner, laughing about a prank they had pulled on Twilight earlier that day. Everything was perfect—until a shadow passed overhead.

Rainbow Dash looked up, her eyes narrowing as she recognized the silhouette of a pegasus hovering above them. The pony landed gracefully in front of them, her dark gray coat shimmering under the sunlight, her eyes cold and calculating. Her mane was a sleek black, with streaks of dark red that matched the cruel smirk on her face.

“Rainbow Dash,” the pegasus drawled, her voice dripping with a mix of nostalgia and disdain. “It’s been a while.”

Rainbow Dash stiffened, her cheerful demeanor vanishing as she recognized the pony before her. “Mean Wings,” she replied, her tone cool. “What are you doing here?”

Pinkie Pie, ever curious and protective, moved closer to Rainbow, sensing the tension. “Who’s this, Dashie?” she asked, tilting her head.

Mean Wings glanced at Pinkie with a raised eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips. “I see you’ve got a new marefriend. Cute. I’m Mean Wings, Rainbow’s ex-girlfriend. Didn’t she tell you about me?”

Rainbow Dash’s wings twitched, and she stepped forward, shielding Pinkie with one of them. “We’re not doing this, Mean Wings. Whatever you want, just leave us out of it.”

Mean Wings chuckled darkly, clearly enjoying the discomfort she was causing. “Oh, come on, Dash. I’m just in town for a visit. Thought I’d say hi to an old flame. It’s not every day you run into the pony who broke your heart, is it?”

Pinkie Pie looked up at Rainbow, her eyes wide with concern. “Dashie…?”

Rainbow Dash sighed, turning to face Pinkie. “Pinkie, this is Mean Wings. We dated a long time ago, back when I was in Cloudsdale. Things didn’t end well between us.”

“That’s an understatement,” Mean Wings interjected, her voice laced with bitterness. “You dumped me because you thought I was too ‘reckless’ and ‘mean-spirited.’ Can you believe that, Pinkie?”

Pinkie frowned, sensing the malice behind Mean Wings’ words. “If Dashie thought that, then she must’ve had a good reason,” she said, standing tall beside Rainbow Dash.

Mean Wings scoffed, her smirk fading into a scowl. “Well, it doesn’t matter now, does it? I just wanted to see how you were doing, Dash. I’m sure your new relationship is… better than ours was.” She glanced at Pinkie with a look that was almost a sneer.

Rainbow Dash bristled, but she kept her cool. “It is better. Pinkie is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. And you know what? I don’t regret anything. I’m happier than I’ve ever been.”

Pinkie smiled at Rainbow’s words, feeling a surge of warmth in her chest. “Aww, Dashie…”

Mean Wings seemed taken aback by Rainbow’s confidence and Pinkie’s unwavering support. She snorted, flaring her wings in frustration. “Well, good for you, Dash. I hope you enjoy your perfect little life.”

With that, she took off into the sky, leaving Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie standing together in the street.

Rainbow Dash let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding. She turned to Pinkie, her eyes apologetic. “I’m sorry about that, Pinkie. I didn’t want you to meet her like that.”

Pinkie Pie shook her head, her smile gentle and understanding. “It’s okay, Dashie. Everypony has a past. I’m just glad you’re with me now.”

Rainbow Dash leaned in and nuzzled Pinkie. “Me too, Pinkie. You’re all that matters to me.”

With that, they continued their walk, leaving the shadow of Mean Wings behind them as they focused on the bright future ahead.

**Chapter 10: Popping the Question**

The encounter with Mean Wings had shaken Rainbow Dash a bit, but it had also made her realize something important. Pinkie Pie was the pony she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, and she wasn’t going to wait any longer to make it official.

A few weeks later, Rainbow Dash found herself pacing nervously in her cloud home, trying to muster up the courage to do what she’d been planning for days. She had everything ready: a special cake from Sugarcube Corner, a bouquet of Pinkie’s favorite flowers, and the most important part—a simple yet beautiful engagement ring tucked away safely in a small box.

“Okay, Dash, you can do this,” she muttered to herself, taking a deep breath. “You’re Rainbow Dash. You’re awesome. And you’re going to ask Pinkie to marry you.”

With a determined nod, she grabbed everything and flew down to Sugarcube Corner, where Pinkie was busy decorating cupcakes. The sight of Pinkie happily humming to herself as she worked made Rainbow’s heart skip a beat. She knew she was making the right decision.

“Hey, Pinks,” Rainbow Dash called as she landed gracefully in the bakery.

Pinkie turned around with a wide grin. “Dashie! What’s up? Are you here for some yummy treats or just to see my super amazing face?”

Rainbow Dash chuckled, feeling her nerves melt away just from being around Pinkie. “Actually, I was hoping we could take a walk. I have something important I want to talk to you about.”

Pinkie’s ears perked up, her curiosity piqued. “Ooh, a surprise? I love surprises! Let’s go, Dashie!”

They walked through Ponyville, heading toward a quiet spot near the lake where they could be alone. Rainbow Dash kept the conversation light, though she could feel her heart pounding in her chest the whole time. When they reached the lake, she finally stopped and turned to face Pinkie.

“Pinkie,” Rainbow Dash began, her voice a little shaky, “you’ve made me the happiest pony in Equestria. Every day with you is an adventure, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. You make life brighter, and I can’t imagine it without you.”

Pinkie’s eyes softened, and she tilted her head, a loving smile on her lips. “Aww, Dashie… you make me so happy too! I love every moment we share.”

Rainbow Dash took a deep breath and reached into her saddlebag, pulling out the small box. She opened it to reveal the ring inside—a simple silver band with a tiny blue gem shaped like a balloon, a perfect symbol of Pinkie’s joyful spirit.

Pinkie gasped, her eyes widening in surprise as she realized what was happening.

“Pinkie Pie,” Rainbow Dash said, dropping to one knee, her wings slightly trembling, “will you marry me?”

For a moment, Pinkie was completely still, her mouth hanging open in shock. Then, her eyes filled with tears of joy, and she let out an excited squeal.

“Yes! Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes!” Pinkie cried, bouncing up and down with glee.

Rainbow Dash grinned from ear to ear as she slipped the ring onto Pinkie’s hoof. Pinkie immediately tackled her in a tight hug, nearly knocking the wind out of her.

“I can’t believe it! We’re getting married, Dashie! This is the best day ever!” Pinkie exclaimed, her voice full of emotion.

Rainbow Dash hugged her back, feeling an overwhelming sense of happiness and relief. “I’m so glad you said yes, Pinkie. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

They stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other’s embrace, both knowing that their future together was going to be as bright and colorful as the love they shared.
