It's been nearly 10 years or more since the virus had hit the world. Death tolls rose above millions in a day. Cities were abandoned and families left everything behind to go to the safety areas issued by the government. This all that was left was huge concrete buildings standing and rotting down. And a few groups of people who call themselves as 'scavengers' roam the buildings looking for supplies and other things that would aid them in their survival. But these empty cities are not really empty. Throughout the day the environment remains peaceful, but as the night slowly descends upon the city the roads gets flooded with all sorts of creatures who were humans before, but as the pandemic struck, they transformed into 'runners' and as the days go by they evolve into better and more intelligent species. Government does not acknowledge these groups of people as citizens. They are treated as wildlings and the name 'scavengers' actually is given as they scavenger the leftover of other people.
Tyler, a teenager of nearly 18, was no different. He was a introvert, did not mix in with the scavengers who lived around them. He was 4 when the pandemic wiped out his entire area and he was left out, when everyone ran away to safety. Tyler was raised by a group of scavengers from whom he learnt the skills of scavenging and surviving. From a very young age he was able to make small traps and defense mechanisms which helped them a lot. Sadly after a few years that group was wiped off when they got stuck in a hoard of runners and never made it out. Tyler was once again all alone. Using his learning and experience Tyler found a safe shelter to protect himself at night. Tyler had an advantage, that is, his shelter was in a close proximity to a abandoned supermarket, from which he can salvage machinery and even food. All the scavengers had a small ground in which they grew vegetables. He also cleared a patch of land planted some seeds, hoping that they would grow. Everyday it felt like he was trapped in a time loop. One day, Tyler spotted a few deer grazing on grass. This was the first time in nearly 20 years since Tyler last saw them. Tyler, with his improvised bow and arrow, made his way towards the herd. Suddenly, the ground beneath Tyler's legs gave way and he fell down. It was a trap, set up by other scavengers hunting for food. Tyler had hit his head, and slowly, he lost consciousness.
