The Undead

Chapter 4

It was slowly getting dark. I was alone in that huge building along with that girl. She still hasn't got back her consciousness and I cannot leave her alone. Also you cannot be out at night because at this hour the infected get more stronger and if you don't have a torchlight or any source of lighting, you are shooting them with a blindfold. I prepared myself for what was coming, when I saw that she has started moving. I increased the amount of light coming from my lantern, to have a closer look. She had opened her eyes at this point. She sat up, but as she was inspecting her surroundings, she was absolutely spooked out as she was not expecting a complete stranger sitting beside her in the middle of the night, in an old abandoned building in the middle of nowhere. She was screaming but I had to shut her up as she was attracting attention towards us. She was about to stand up and run but remember the bullet I shot her in her legs, she fell down groaning with pain. I looked out of the window ignoring her as she was in extreme pain.

"Mind if I ask for something ?", she asked, nearly crying.

"What is it ?", I replied.

"Can you please help me with my injured leg ?"

"NO!", I replied.

"Why not ?", she asked.

"Why are you trying to get a stranger's help ?", I inquired.

"Sorry for disrespecting you."
"Look, if you help me out now, we both may get out of this place safely.", she said

"What's the guarantee, that we both will survive. Huh ?", I enquired.

She remained silent. I sat down next to her leg and pulled out the bullet with my knife. She tried to scream but I had warned her of the consequences. Then I wrapped her leg with a piece of cloth and asked her to take some rest. As soon as the first streaks of dawn light up the sky, she may leave.

I didn't sleep that night. Throughout the night I was immersed in the thoughts of survival.

The night passed and when the first streaks of light enlightened the morning sky, I left her all by herself and continued on my path to find out about the roots of the infection and it's possible ending, if any....
