Aphrodite had been awake for at least an hour by the time her alarm clock went off, the shrill beeping noise distracting her from her reading. She huffed, walking over to her bedside table where it sat, "stupid thing," she muttered to herself, smacking the top of the darned thing to shut off the obnoxious noise. Glancing back towards the window where she had sat reading barely a minute ago. It was bright out as it often was for district four, the smell of the sea air seeping through the slightly open window and mixing with the scent of the flowers that sat in a vase on her dresser. It smelt like home.
She was grateful to live in such a big house. Victor's village, houses built with the sole goal of showing off victor life to those who were not, flashing the wealth in the face of the districts. She had lived there with her cousin Finnick ever since she was ten, Finnick became her legal guardian when he was only sixteen after the rest of their family died in a house fire. It was deemed an accident but Aphrodite was never quite sure she agreed, especially after the hushed conversations about Snow between Finnick and Mags she overheard when they thought she was sleeping.
The thumping of footsteps on the landing and the soft murmur of voices distracted her from her daydreaming, Annie must have stayed the night she thought to herself. It was a common occurrence now, ever since she came back from the games her and Finnick had been attached at the hip barely leaving each other alone for too long, if one moves the other would too soon after. It was the way they looked at each other too that had changed, pure adoration and love. Aphrodite wanted someone to look at her that way.
There was a soft knock on her door as it then opened and Annie walked in, the tiniest of smiles gracing her features. "Finnick told me to come make sure you were awake," she said lightly, fidgeting with her fingers, "He also said that you should try to dress nice." and with that Annie gave her a soft smile and headed downstairs, leaving Dite alone once again.
The Heart girl walked over to the wardrobe in the corner of the room, opening it and searching round for a nice enough dress for the reaping. It was then that her eyes landed on the soft white dress in the back, it was her favorite. The dress went to just below her knees, a light blue ribbon lightly cinching around the waist, and small blue buttons leading up the bodice to the embroidered collar decorated with waves.
She glanced in the mirror and quickly flattened down her blonde hair before rushing out her room and down the stairs to the kitchen. The smell of slightly burnt pancakes welcomed her, an obvious sign Finnick had decided to cook that morning, something that should never happen unless you want half of Panem burnt to a crisp. "Not too bad Finn," she teased, looking over at where her cousin was standing wearing an apron with the words KISS THE COOK in bright pink slapped in the middle, "At least you haven't set the kitchen on fire yet"
"Don't worry I'm working on it," he responded giving her a shit eating grin before handing her a plate of definitely burnt pancakes.
She reached for the strawberry jam, grabbing a knifeful of it before spreading it on her pancake, putting what most would consider too much jam on the pancake in hopes it would cover up the burnt taste. She then grabbed the mug of coffee that had been waiting for her on the side with far too much sugar and a dash of milk just how she liked it. "Did Annie head home?" She questioned having noticed the red head's absence.
"Yep," the victor responded, "She had to rush home, you know how it is on reaping days. Speaking of how you are holding up?"
"Fine," she muttered, looking down at where her hands sat fidgeting in her lap, "it's unlikely I'm gonna be reaped my names only in there four times, I'm more worried about Achilles if I'm being honest."
