Chapter 4 - Meeting Hana
The first day I went to public school ever was in the eighth grade. Before eighth grade is all very fuzzy. I cannot remember much. It seems like I just woke up from a very long and deep sleep. All I can remember is the first day of school because that was the day were I met Hana. I saw her when I was in the schools courtyard. I saw Hana sitting by herself, reading a book. I heard people pass by whispering mean comments to her. I felt like I needed to talk to her but I didn't know why. I kept on thinking about what I saw. I should have stuck up for her or say something to those girls.
I saw her again when she was in in the beginning of math class. She was reading the same book that she was reading in the morning. Then the teacher stood up and introduced me to the class. After I introduced myself I took the seat next to her. Then the teacher assigned a partner work sheet thing and I saw that no one picked Hana to be their partner so, I chose Hana to be my partner. She seemed so happy to be picked that she would cry. I did not want her to cry so I smiled at her. Then we worked hard.
As we walked together to science we were talking. However, it seemed like she didn't talk much.
I asked " So how are you?"
She answered "OK I guess."
I nodded then it became really quite the rest of the way to science class. When we were in science we got two new partner projects. One of the projects was having a to make an atom. And the other one was a Ph scale. I saw Hana walking instead of getting picked up. I called my mom and told her that i would be walking home.
I then ran to Hana and asked "Hey. Where are you walking too?"
She answered in a soft voice and said "Hello. I am walking to the Library."
I said "Oh! Can I go with you?"
Hana said "I guess. I stay there really late though."
I asked "Oh do your parents know?"
She shook her head. I asked "Then aren't your parents always worried about you?"
She took a deep breath and with a shaky voice she said "Can we talk about something else?"
I said "Sure." Then there was a awkward silence between us. I finally said "Hey do you need to get a book from the Library?"
Hana answered "Yeah."
Then I told her "Hey do you want to go grab a book and then go somewhere?"
She answered "Sure."
I asked "Where do you want to go?"
She answered with a faint smile and said "I know the perfect place if you trust me enough to follow me."
I nodded not knowing what I would soon learn about my new friend Hana.
