Days passed in a blur of tension and whispered conversations. Jaemin and Renjun had been relentless in their search for the mole within Jaemin's organization. Every conversation was scrutinized, every potential lead followed up. Renjun had been determined to protect Jaemin and their life together, and he was prepared to do whatever it took to ensure their safety.
Finally, after days of careful investigation, they found their answer.
The man who had betrayed them wasn't high up in the ranks—just a small-time operator, someone Jaemin had trusted with minor tasks, never suspecting he would be the one to turn against them. But Renjun recognized the look in the man's eyes when they finally confronted him in a secluded warehouse on the outskirts of the city. It was fear, plain and simple—fear of what he had done, fear of what would happen now that he had been caught.
Renjun stood in the shadows, his expression cold and unreadable as Jaemin questioned the man, who was now trembling before them. The betrayal stung, but Renjun had already made up his mind about how to handle the situation. This man had put Jaemin in danger, had brought the police to their door, and that was something Renjun couldn't forgive.
"You thought you could get away with it?" Jaemin's voice was low, almost a growl as he stepped closer to the man, his presence radiating danger. "You thought you could betray me and walk away unscathed?"
The man stammered, his eyes wide with terror as he shook his head. "I-I didn't mean to! They forced me! They said they'd protect me if I cooperated... I didn't have a choice!"
Renjun's eyes narrowed at the pathetic excuse. "There's always a choice," he said icily, stepping out of the shadows to stand beside Jaemin. "You made yours. And now, you'll face the consequences."
The man's gaze flicked to Renjun, his desperation clear. "Please! I'll do anything! Just don't kill me, please!"
Renjun glanced at Jaemin, who was watching him with an unreadable expression. Renjun knew Jaemin would support whatever decision he made—this was Renjun's call to make. After a moment of tense silence, Renjun finally spoke.
"We're not going to kill you," Renjun said slowly, his voice cold and calculated. The man's eyes widened with hope, but Renjun wasn't finished. "But you're going to make things right. You're going to turn yourself in."
The man blinked in confusion, his fear giving way to disbelief. "W-What?"
"You're going to go back to the police," Renjun continued, his tone unwavering. "You're going to tell them that you were the one responsible for everything they were investigating. You'll take the fall, and in return, we'll let you live."
Jaemin's gaze remained fixed on Renjun, a glint of approval in his eyes. He said nothing, letting Renjun take the lead.
The man's face paled as he realized what Renjun was asking him to do. "You can't be serious... They'll lock me up forever! I'll be a dead man in there!"
Renjun's expression didn't waver. "That's the deal. Either you go to the police and turn yourself in, or we handle this here and now." His voice dropped, taking on a more menacing tone. "You know what we're capable of. This is your only chance."
The man trembled, his gaze darting between Renjun and Jaemin, searching for any sign of mercy. But there was none. Renjun was resolute, his eyes hard and unyielding. He had no sympathy left for this man, not after the betrayal that had nearly torn his life apart.
After what felt like an eternity, the man finally slumped in defeat. "Okay... okay, I'll do it. I'll turn myself in. Just... just don't hurt me."
Renjun nodded curtly, his expression still cold. "Good. We'll be watching to make sure you keep your word. If you try to run or do anything stupid, you know what will happen."
The man nodded frantically, his entire body shaking with fear. "I-I won't. I swear."
Jaemin finally stepped forward, his voice calm but filled with authority. "You have until tomorrow morning to turn yourself in. We'll know if you do, and if you don't... well, you won't like the consequences."
The man nodded again, barely able to stand on his own as the weight of his fate pressed down on him. "I'll do it. I'll go to the police."
Renjun turned to Jaemin, his eyes meeting his husband's. There was no need for words—they understood each other perfectly. Jaemin gave Renjun a small nod, and together they turned and left the warehouse, leaving the man to his thoughts and his fear.
As they walked out into the night, Renjun felt a strange sense of satisfaction settle over him. He had taken control of the situation, had made the man who betrayed them face the consequences of his actions. It wasn't just about protecting Jaemin—it was about ensuring that no one would ever dare to cross them again.
Jaemin reached out, taking Renjun's hand in his as they walked to the car. "You handled that well," Jaemin said quietly, his voice filled with admiration. "You're stronger than you realize, Renjun."
Renjun squeezed Jaemin's hand, his heart swelling with love and determination. "I'll do whatever it takes to protect us," he replied softly. "No one's going to tear us apart."
Jaemin smiled, leaning in to press a soft kiss to Renjun's temple. "And that's why I love you."
As they drove back home, Renjun felt a sense of peace settle over him. The threat had been neutralized, and they were safe—for now. But Renjun knew that they couldn't afford to let their guard down. They would have to remain vigilant, always ready to face whatever came their way.
But as long as they faced it together, Renjun knew they could handle anything.
