Remorse is the only feeling that will never fade from her mind. Every time she tried to close her eyes, there was always a feeling of restlessness. Depriving her from her senses. Every now and then, she gets reminded of the past. A pale white hand reaching towards her.
"Big sis..."
A girl's voice. Familiar but instead of giving a soothing feeling, the voice only brings her regret and trauma.
The hand gets closer, the closer it gets, the more it's stained with red. The bloodied hand gets closer to her neck, until it's gripping her neck tight. As she suffocates, the hand starts dripping blood on her. She tries to struggle, but her body won't move.
As she starts to lose consciousness, the darkness suddenly fades. She now stands on top of a cliff, with the view of the ocean and sea shore.
Hearing footsteps from behind, she turns around and sees a figure..
"So, this is your choice?"
A Sarkaz woman with white hair asked, but before she could answer.
The figure turned into ash and all that is left is a rifle on the ground. She looks at the sky, seeing more ashes in the air. She looks around and finds equipment and weapons all over the sea shore. She falls down on her knees, feelings of despair and anguish starts to fill her.
"No... I... I'm sorry... I-"
The ground starts to shake. The sky begins to crack like glass, the sea starts to rise, and a horrific roar is heard from the sea.
"No! No! NO!"
Just as the world is breaking apart, she woke up from the nightmare.
"Haah... haah,,, haah,,," she breathed heavily before calming down.
She sits up, looking around her room to make sure it's reality. The clock on the bedside table shows it's 5 am, still early in the morning.
She forced herself to get up from the bed, and walk slowly towards the sink to wash her face. Looking at the sink mirror, she looks at herself. Her eyes are swollen, and her mouth feels dry.
Then a knock is heard from her room door. She slowly walked towards the door to open it.
"Amiya..."
A person wearing a mask and a concealing hoodie is standing in front of the door.
"Another bad dream?"
Amiya could only reply with a slow nod. There's a moment of silence between the two.
"Let's take a walk, take your mind off it"
Amiya nods.
The two walk around the Rhodes Island ship. Passing by operators training in the early morning and getting ready for their usual routine. Taking in the scenery of early morning on the ship deck.
Eventually, they walk into the cafeteria. Some operators can be seen having breakfast, drinking coffee or tea. But one person stood out. Sitting alone at one of the tables, drinking coffee. A woman with long messy pink hair, dark circles under her eyes and wearing a wrinkled lab coat.
"Oh, Doctor, Amiya. Good morning" the woman says in a lazy tone
"Morning, Professor Persica." The Doctor replies and sits down with Amiya.
"Coffee?" the Professor asks
"Sure"
The professor pours hot coffee in an empty cup, then grabs five sugar cubes.
"I'll have it without the cubes" the doctor said quickly before she could put the cubes in.
"Suit yourself" she says as she puts the cup in front of the doctor.
"Any new developments regarding the ARK Fighters?" the Doctor asks
"Ah... Yeah, the testing has been going well. The team's been going all out, now that we got it working. It's now able to fold into its hexagonal shape without damaging the outer layer. Heh, Maria's really proud of that"
"I see, that's good news" the Doctor reply
"When will it be ready to be used?" Amiya communicates her question
"Not anytime soon, this is new tech. Also, we haven't tested the weapon arsenal yet. It would still take at least a couple years to be used as proper fighter jets."
Amiya looks down at the table
"Besides, aren't we planning to use the ARK instead of the Rhodes Island base?"
"That is correct. Repairing the ARK is our top priority" the Doctor says
"Right, and repairing that meant only a fifth of the engineering department was able to work on the fighter project"
The Professor sighs
"As much as I'd like to see the fighter in action. I have to agree with the Doctor. The ARK is our top priority"
"If it can truly get in the air... " she says looking down at her coffee
There's a moment of silence for a few seconds.
"Well, enough of that talk. The sun's rising, so... I'm going to sleep"
She stands up
"As always, if you need me. I'll be in my office"
She waves then leaves the cafeteria, while more operators starts coming in.
The Doctor sips his coffee.
"Eugh!"
The Doctor puts the coffee down and looks at it.
"It's sweet"
At Amiya's office, 06:00 AM
Amiya and the Doctor are sitting at their respective desks. She looks at the office calendar. Today's date is June 30th.
She turns towards the Doctor.
"Tomorrow is Ch'en-san's inauguration day" Amiya communicates to the Doctor.
"Yeah, I know. Time moves fast when you're busy. How long has it been since she returned to Lungmen? Almost five years?"
Amiya nods
"I'm glad the people of Lungmen accepted her with open arms"
"It's a shame, we will arrive a little late. We're expecting a guest to arrive tomorrow. I've already notified Ch'en that we'll be there a day or two after" The Doctor replies.
Amiya looks at the calendar again, before nodding to the Doctor's words.
"I hope everything goes well" Amiya communicates
"Yeah... I hope so..."
The Doctor looks out of the window, feeling uneasy about what might happen.
