Rosalie Solem's nights were often restless, filled with vivid dreams that danced dangerously between prophecy and imagination. On one particular night, under the heavy blanket of a starless sky, she found herself walking through the familiar cobbled streets of her village in Provence. The dream began as a gentle stroll but soon morphed into a harrowing vision.
Rosalie: "Something terrible is going to happen here," she whispered to herself in the dream, her voice barely audible over the howling wind. The air was thick with an ominous fog that seemed to swallow the quaint homes and vine-covered walls. As she walked, figures moved around her—faceless villagers caught in a loop of silent panic. The atmosphere was suffocating, filled with an unspoken dread that made Rosalie's heart race.
Mysterious Voice: "Protect them... you must warn them..."
The voice echoed around her, disembodied and chilling. Rosalie spun around, trying to locate its source, but found only the swirling mist and shadowy figures retreating further into darkness.
Awakening with a start, Rosalie's room felt oppressively small as she gasped for air. Her mother, hearing the commotion, rushed in.
"Rosalie! What is it? Another bad dream?" "Yes, mother, but this one was different. It felt like a warning." She said, almost out of breath. The next day at the market square, Rosalie's attempts to convey her fears were met with mixed reactions.
Villagers mumbled as she passed them "Rosalie has seen something again; perhaps we should listen." "Nonsense! She's just a girl with too much imagination." She could hear the whispers around her, sometimes she thought they meant for her to hear it. She was the village's freak.Rosalie felt Pierre's presence before she saw him; his rational aura always seemed to clear the mists of uncertainty.
"Tell me about your vision, Rosalie." He said, with a hint of curiosity and excitement. "It was more disturbing than ever before. I fear something bad will happen soon. And how does everyone know about it? The whispering starts before I set foot outside!" She exclaimed, slightly exasperated. "Well besides from hearing you screams at night, which shakes the whole town by the way, your mother is quick on her feet" he humorously says. "But tell me what the dream showed you this time." "Fine.. but be warned, it's quite grim" she answered.
Pierre listened intently, his skepticism temporarily suspended by the genuine fear he observed in Rosalie's eyes.As whispers of war grow louder from beyond their borders, so does the urgency in Rosalie's heart to protect those she loves from an unseen danger lurking much closer to home.
