Chapter One| Should I

I've always been an only child so I guess im the smartest in my family alone. My dad is the CEO of many companies and travels a lot so im always stuck with evil stepmother.

My mom died when she gave birth to me so it was just me and my dad but not anymore. I'm supposed to be smart so I can make my dad proud is what she always said so that's what I did.

Not for her but for my dad, it's one day until graduation so I will see if I get the valedictorian award, hopefully I do.

Me and my best friend Emma got to put in our applications for college early so a day after graduation it will be time for new beginnings. We signed up to the same college because our moms went there and we were inseparable since the day we were born.

*ding*

*ding*

Emma: GIRL

Emma: I HAVE TEA

Me: Well spilll then!

Emma: So you know Mrs. Jenkins, well obviously you do bc you had her lol.
Anyways, her and this boy Chase got caught in the bathroom doing it!-

Me: There's NO WAY!

Teachers these days, lemme stop anyw-.

"MARIYAH" My dad yelled so I went downstairs to see what was happening. Please don't tell me he's leaving I hate being alone with evil stepmother.

"Yes father," I ask looking down crossing my fingers behind my back.

"I know you hate when I leave but I have a business trip in Greece." My hands shake behind my back knowing what's going to happen once he leaves. I shut my eyes for a second and look up forcing a smile trying to hide my tears.

"Ok dad," I mumble sniffling. The door shuts he's gone, im all alone until I get to college. I should visit Emma her mom has always been great to me and I need to talk to her and laugh.

I decided to wear a black long-sleeved crop top with black biker shorts, white shoes, a black tee shirt under, and a cute necklace.

I sneak out of my house because I don't want to hear evil stepmother's annoying voice. I get into my car and drive off. Should I cut my hair, it's too long so it gets in the way sometimes but I don't know.

Five minutes later at her house, it's huge. She doesn't like to admit it though. I knock on the door waiting for her to answer.

"BITCH!" Emma yells.

"HEY!" I laugh and hug her tightly, we saw each other yesterday but it has felt like forever.

"Wanna watch a movie and eat ice cream," she questioned wiggling her eyebrows. I laugh and nod my head, im supposed to be on a diet but who cares I can cheat once or twice.

We watched the office, eating ice cream, laughing, it was a lot of fun of course. Later on we fell asleep for a while.

I move Emma's head off my shoulder and laugh at her sleeping face. I look at her dresser to see the clock.

"Shoot." It's eight o'clock im going to be late.

"WHAT, WHAT, IS SOMEONE DEAD!" I jump when Emma yells and put my shoes on.

"I gotta go bye!" I run out the door and get in my car. Soon I'm at my house, opening the door to see my stepmother. Before I get to say anything she slaps me and I fall to the floor.

"You were supposed to clean the house when your father left you stupid whore!" I wince as my cheek forms a bruise. I jump on my feet looking at the floor.

"SAY SOMETHING YOU WHORE." She shouted having an ugly look on her face.

I try to say something but nothing comes out, just my breath.

"I'm done, it's time for the shed where sluts like you belong!" looking up in fear with tears threatening my eyes to fall I try to stop her but she pulls my hair dragging me harder.

"No, no, no. Please no. IM SORRY. Stepmother please! Jess please, no!" She slaps me at the name while pushing me into the shed locking the door behind her.

Authors Note: I know it really short and boring but I promise it will get better!
