"Morr! It's time to wake up or you'll be late for your first day of school!"
I turn back to the pan on the stove, flipping the pancake over. The smell of strawberries and butter fills the air, and while the smell makes my stomach churn, Morr loves it. The pitters of her feet on the wooden floor come closer, mixing in with the blasting of Katy Perry. Morrigan barges into the kitchen, grabbing a hold of my pants pocket.
"Daddy, when is the pancakes going to be done?"
"In just a second, darling. Now, go wash your hands and sit down, 'kay?"
Morr runs into the bathroom. I watch after her until I hear the sound of water running. Turning back to the pan, I take the pancake out and put it on Morrigan's plate. Reaching for the bowl of cut strawberries, I place them in a smiley face shape. I walk over to the fridge and grab out the whipped cream.
"Daddy! Daddy! Are you picking me up from school today?"
I peek out from behind the fridge door, a smile creeping on my face as she struggles onto the island stool.
"I'm sorry, darling. I have to work late today, but Miss Selene is going to take you home today," I pause, closing the fridge, "Is that alright with you?"
"Yes daddy," she grabs ahold of her fork, waiting for me to pass her the plate. I spray some whipped cream onto the pancakes, sliding them over the island. She digs into her pancakes, a happy smile settling across her face as she eats.
"Eat up, pretty girl."

I open the door, letting my briefcase fall to the floor. Selene and Morrigan must be watching TV in her bedroom, the faint sound of some Disney show playing in the distance. Slamming the door shut, Morr comes running down the hallway. I crouch down onto one knee, holding my arms open for her to run into. Her giggles are like music to my ears.
"Daddy! You're home!" She wraps her arms around my neck, holding onto me tightly. I stand up, settling her on my shoulders. Selene comes walking out with her backpack around her shoulders.
"Hey Mister Bourreau. She's been a pretty happy girl since we got home from school," she gives me a small, toothy smile, "Her teacher is a nice lady, young too. No worries about another Mrs. Jeanne situation. She seems to care about Morrigan and Morrigan seems to like her too."
"Her favorite color is purple, Daddy! Just like me!" Morr pulls on my hair in excitement, causing me to let out a laugh.
"Sounds good, Selene. Anything else before you go?"
She thinks for a moment, "Oh! She says Morrigan is having some trouble in class and wants to do some in-school and out-of-school tutoring. I gave her your office phone number for her to call you, as long as that's alright with you."
