"I THINK I'LL PASS," Aniela muttered, holding the house phone to her ear. She glanced over at her dad, Adonis, who was watching her with a curious expression. His eyebrows were raised in question, but he stayed quiet for the moment.
Damon's voice came through the phone, insistent and a little too smug for Aniela's liking. "Well, after that little fiasco yesterday, I think it's best you come over here, Bennett."
Aniela rolled her eyes, already exhausted by the conversation. "Okay, but why do I need to be there?"
There was a brief pause before Damon answered, his tone dripping with amusement. "Well, we need to talk.."
She was starting to get annoyed already. "and what are you going to do if i don't come? Are you going to force me?"
"Yup," Damon replied, popping the 'p' dramatically, as if enjoying every second of her discomfort.
Aniela sighed, realizing there was no way out of this. "Fine, I'll be over soon." She hung up the phone and turned to see her dad's expression had shifted to one of mild concern mixed with that familiar protectiveness in his eyes.
"Don't even say anything. I already know," she said quickly, cutting him off before he could voice whatever fatherly advice he was thinking about.
Adonis leaned back slightly, watching her as she set the phone down with a resigned sigh and started heading back upstairs to her room.
Just as she reached the first step, his voice followed her, laced with a blend of worry and warning. "Be careful with those vampires, Aniela!"
She paused at the bottom of the stairs, glancing back at him with a small, reassuring smile. "Always am, Dad. Always am." Then she turned and continued up, mentally preparing herself for whatever awaited her at the Salvatore house.
