Hi VANi! I'm Rose, the host of ENSNARE : A Graphic Competition.
Congratulations on securing first place in this graphic war!
How do you feel about it?thank you!! and i feel pretty proud of myself! it's the first war i've won; i placed second in the two wars i've been in before this, so it was exhilarating to earn this! it's a huge honor.
That's good to know! Would you like to briefly introduce yourself to our audience?
well i'm vani! i've been designing for about five years, and i've been an artist my entire life. i don't remember exactly how i stumbled upon wattpad, but when i did i immediately found interest in the design community, since i've never been much of a reader or writer. i've been hooked ever since!
Wow, that's amazing! So you've been here for quite some time now. What's your favourite thing about this community and graphic designing in general?
i love seeing variety in the community! seeing so many different styles and ideas, to see people pushing their creativity and everyone's support for each other too. it's so fun!! as for graphic designing, i've always enjoyed its specific aspect of creating something entirely new out of pre-existing photos or layouts. as opposed to art where you typically create something from scratch, i love the unique experience of transforming something from one form to a new one in graphic design. it's like magic!
Indeed! Graphic designing can also feel like magic at times which also happened to be the theme of ENSNARE ^^
Coming to different styles, are there any styles &/ genres you prefer working with whilst designing a graphic?
my go-to is definitely manipulation! it comes the most naturally to me, and i love experimenting with lighting. and i usually tend to make super vibrant, bright designs, but i do have a love for making dark designs too. i want to explore more with blending and typography too! it was super fun to work with those styles in ensnare.
I do love your manip designs and have seen your beautiful experimentation with other styles too! Would you like to tell us more about your designing process?
usually i come up with a vision right away! i always think of the composition first: where certain elements will go; what colors would go where; the focal points, etc. if i have trouble envisioning it, then i usually sketch it out on paper. then, i go to pinterest to browse designs that inspire me or are similar to what i have in mind, and i try to find ideas that i could reinvent. then i go resource hunting, which is where i either find exactly what i need orrr i adjust my initial idea to fit the resources i find. and then i edit!
Wow, that's definitely something a beginner can also perhaps learn from if they're lost in the woods about how to design!Speaking of inspirations, is there any graphic design trend going on right now that speaks to you or, happens to be your favourite one so far?
i've been seeing a lot of textures, noise, and distortion effects in design lately, which i love!! i've always had a love for glitchy/tech design elements, as well as collage designs, so the distorted poster style really inspires me.
Ah yes! That's definitely a design trend I also like to see and hope to try out someday too!
Speaking of collage and poster designs, there were definitely a lot of styles I had asked the Charmers to experiment with. Which prompt was your favourite to work with out of all of them?hmm that's a hard one! there was such a fun variety of styles and graphic types. i think i had the most fun with the final prompt! it was my first time designing a book jacket, and it really opened my eyes to the more professional side of graphic design. i had to prioritize aspects such as readability and practicality a lot more in this design, which was pretty new territory for me. and it was fun trying to make the jacket look like something you'd actually see in a book store!
I'm glad that the final prompt seemed insightful and helpful to you! I was delighted by your creative design too along with the audience ^^Speaking of creativity, have you ever faced a design/art block? If so how did you deal with it?
i definitely have, but it's never too tough! my motto throughout anything is that "everything will work out in the end", and i know that even if i'm facing design block, i'll eventually get an idea and work things out. so honestly, i wait it out! let it pass and do other things i like in the meantime. sometimes i get my best ideas when i'm not actively designing or searching for ideas.
Ooh, I've been there too, and I'm sure many others would relate to this as well (:So, moving on, do you have any future plans in mind of any personal projects and stuff you might want to work on, on Wattpad or outside of it?
in the nearest future, i plan on opening my requests back up! i specifically want to make premades and cover sets, that'd be nice. i also want to host another graphic war some time in the future, i'm not sure when, but i have most of it figured out already! that's pretty much all i'm planning at the moment.
Sounds super exciting! Good luck for your requests and the war hosting journey , plus any other projects you take up in the future. I'm sure they'll go great! < 3Thank you for doing this interview with me. It was definitely a very interesting one and could be an inspiration for young designers too! Congratulations on the win, once again 👏
ahh thanks so much for ensnare and my first interview!! i'm once again very honored and grateful for everything. i had so much fun! <3
