When we got home, he didn't say anything, but I could tell he was angry, so I stayed quiet too. He made me sit on the couch and then left.
Manang quickly came to me and said, "Ma'am, I'm sorry, we couldn't do anything earlier." She started to tear up, but I just smiled at her.
"It's okay, at least I'm fine, and that's what matters," I said.
Carl suddenly arrived from somewhere, but he brought something-it was an emergency kit with medicine for wounds.
"Manang, could you please prepare his room? He'll be resting later," Carl politely said. Manang agreed and left.
Carl turned his gaze back to me, so I started to speak.
"I'll treat my own wound, Carl," I said, reaching to take the cotton from him, but he moved it away.
"Let me," he said, and he gently placed the cotton on my wound near my cheek, making me close my eyes from the pain.
While he was treating me, a thought crossed my mind about his ex-what happened between them?
"By the way, Carl, where is Ayesha now? Is she okay? Have you two gotten back together?" I asked. It was a random question, but I thought it was okay to ask.
He didn't speak and just looked at me, so I continued talking.
"Get back together with her; it's a waste after 10 years together! I feel like she loves you and didn't mean to choose studying abroad over you. But you know, I'd also choose studying over a man! So, understand her decision," I added.
He just looked at me and said, "Shut up, worry about your wound."
I didn't say anything more after that. Well, it seemed like he didn't want to talk about it, so fine.
After he treated the bruise on my cheek, he took some ice packs and placed them on my top of my head. I held them and felt guilty about what had happened, so I spoke up.
"Sorry about what I said in the interview. I know you've been criticized on social media because of the netizens' conclusions about the abuse issue. Don't worry; I'll clear your name. I'll tell my manager about it." I said.
"That's your opinion about our marriage, and I can't do anything if that's how you feel. So don't apologize for that. It's not your fault for what others did," Carl said and then stood up.
"I'll return this medicine, so you go upstairs and rest. I know your body must be hurting," he said, so I nodded.
I went upstairs, entered my room, and lay down. Before long, I fell asleep.
When I woke up, I got up because I was hungry. I looked out the window and saw it was dark, so I left my room and went downstairs to the kitchen, where I found some food in Tupperware on the table.
"You're awake," I was startled and stood up when I heard Carl speak from behind me.
"Oh, yes," I replied.
"I'll heat it up, and you just sit there at the counter," he said as he took the Tupperware.
I wanted to refuse, but it seemed he wouldn't be stopped, so I just sat at the counter with a view of his back. I admit that Carl is such a gentleman. Ayesha is so lucky to have him, but I'm sad that they broke up.
Out of curiosity, I asked again, "Carl, sorry for asking, but what really happened between you two?" I might have seemed nosy, but he seemed to be in a good mood.
He glanced at me briefly but continued what he was doing. I thought he wasn't going to answer, but after a moment, he started to speak.
"It was a mutual decision. She went abroad to study, and I agreed," he said, which made me furrow my brows.
