The window blew open with a sudden gust of wind, rattling against the frame as Angel placed the last box of clothes into the moving truck. She paused for a moment, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face, her eyes drifting to the familiar surroundings she was leaving behind. The street felt strangely quiet, the air heavy, as if it was holding its breath.

She wiped her hands on her jeans and glanced back at the house one last time. It was a mix of relief and uncertainty, but she was ready to start over—ready to leave it all behind.

"This is it," Angel whispered to herself, her voice barely audible over the wind. She stood still for a moment, staring at the house—at the memories she was walking away from. A small, bittersweet smile tugged at the corner of her lips. It wasn't just the house she was leaving behind; it was the chaos, the fear, and all the pieces of a life she no longer wanted to carry.

With a deep breath, she shut the truck's door and gave the house one last look. "No more hiding"

Angel slid into the driver's seat of her old Honda, the familiar scent of worn leather and lingering memories filling the small space. She took a deep breath and turned the key. The engine sputtered for a moment before roaring to life, a low rumble that seemed to echo her own determination.

As the car idled, she gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles turning white. This was the moment she'd been waiting for—the moment she'd take control of her life again. With one last glance in the rearview mirror at the house she was leaving behind, she shifted into gear and pulled away.

"Altana better be good," Angel muttered to herself as she pulled onto the road, her eyes fixed ahead on the stretch of highway. The thought of the small town she was moving to gave her a mix of hope and apprehension. It was a fresh start, far away from everything that had gone wrong. She tightened her grip on the steering wheel, feeling the weight of her decision pressing down on her chest. It had to be better—quieter, safer. A place where she could breathe again.

Angel continued driving, the hum of the road beneath her tires becoming a steady rhythm as the miles passed. Her phone buzzed on the passenger seat, the screen lighting up with a message from Aunt Mariah. She glanced over briefly, knowing her aunt was probably checking in.

*"How's it going? You close to Altana yet?"*

Angel sighed, eyes returning to the road. She didn't feel like texting back, not right now. The drive felt heavier than she expected, and despite the open road ahead, a part of her still felt trapped by everything she was leaving behind.

Her phone buzzed again. Another message from Mariah.

*"Remember, this is a fresh start. You've got this."*Angel smiled faintly. Her aunt always knew what to say, but deep down, Angel knew the real challenge wouldn't end when she reached Altana.
