The Red Herring

Chapter 1
May 23rd, 1992.
There was a meeting between the Director of NASA. And the president of the United States. They were speaking about telling the public that the temperature of some of the states was rising. The NASA team Found it worrisome. they felt like something was wrong. That shouldn't happen.
"What will it do if we tell the public? It would only raise panic." said the president.
"It might, but we have to act fast about this. Many of our scientists are concerned that the Earth's core's temperature is rising." said the director of Nasa
"Look, whatever I say is correct. We will not tell the public. And if you try to tell, or anyone finds out, all. you are going to get fired and sent to prison. And if you get out, I'll make sure you never get hired again" said the president with anger.
At that moment a scientist arrived, his name was Liam Robinson.
"Sir, I think the earth's core isn't heating. This might just be a red herring placed to distract us from a real threat," said Liam.
"Nonsense I checked the simulation myself, it is true the earth's core is overheating. Are you suggesting NASA has gotten hacked?" said the Director of Nasa.
"Yes, sir, I think the real threat is a virtually undetectable virus, and it's in the hands of this mafia gang. All of this is a distraction from the fight going on to get this virus and if it spreads it's lethal," said Liam looking sharp although nobody believed him.
"Is this true Carson?" asked the president.
"I don't think so. The threat of the earth's core is real Mr. President and all focus should be on that," said Carson ignoring Liam.
"All alright, however, what I said still stands, this shall not be shared." said the president firmly, looking at Carson and then Liam.
"Of course sir, I understand not a word about the earth's core overheating," said Carson calmly.
A few moments later the president left.
"Why did you say that? What I'm saying is true, this virus is out there," said Liam frustrated.
"I know Liam but you saw what happened when we told the President about the earth's core heating up. What do you think he would have done if I confirmed that it was all a red herring?"
"He would have forced us to keep it a secret," said Liam, starting to understand.
"Exactly, I say we keep it this way. We will still keep tabs about what's going on regarding the virus and hopefully make a counteragent for it," said Carson moments before leaving the meeting room.
Liam truly Admired Dr. Carson Smithley.
To ensure that the president never found out about their secret project that was the day the most secret organization was established the "Fun Facts Club". Its actual name was "Project Sunfire", it was founded by the Director of NASA, Dr. Carson Smithley. The organization was dedicated to spreading the information NASA had that the president disapproved of sharing with the public.
In Between the paragraphs published every month were hidden clues, it went on for 10 years until Doctor Smithley died mysteriously on his way home from work on May 23rd, 2002, and for years I have wondered, why he died the same day that the president said no to him? what was so special about that specific day?
