tw // genocide, drunk driving

hello everyone, the recent events in the bts fandom along with the boycotts have made me feel even more disillusioned as a long time army. i had long ago stopped listening to their recent music because it wasn't my taste but I still listened to their older music occassionally. however, in the recent days, the behaviour of the armys more than the members themselves makes me feel even more distant and change my relationship with the fandom.

i live in India, where drunk and driving accidents are so common they could occur on any vehicle, even two wheelers. ive known ppl who've lost relatives to such accidents and there have been really big cases with celebrities who have actually killed ppl but not been treated the same. while suga's case is minor at best, the behaviour of armys more than Suga himself is unsettling. making jokes, threads defending Suga (even when he owned up to it), INSULTING THE LAW, minimising the effects of drunk and driving, kind of making up claims as they along, etc. is what is unsettling. instead of staying neutral and waiting for evidence, they banded together to defend suga from  "a smear campaign"?? a smear campaign is what happened to wonyoung of ive jfc

and insulting those who left the fandom bc they couldn't handle the fact that their fave got into such an accident, calling it a "fandom cleanse", etc. y'all ppl have lost their family to such accidents?? even with electric scooters. Suga was lucky he wasn't horribly injured himself too, who would armys have blamed if the injury was really serious? the pavement?

armys have also begun to get a reputation for becoming more misogynistic, rabid and just generally have been picking fights with other fandoms as well, even those they ideally even shouldn't be having beef with (like carats, literally mingyu and jungkook are besties dk is part of the 97 liner group).

and insulting the rightful boycott of BTS for supporting brands that aid the genocide in gaza ... just say you prefer simping over 7 men over having some humanity.

as a multi who stans a lot of groups from the big 4 and a huge kwon eunbi stan who had to deal with the fact that she was in a sprite ad with eunwoo, i am able to be in those fandoms while not actively supporting these groups with streams or buying their merch or going to their concerts (not that they'll ever perform here but lol). i illegally downloaded and listen to na by nayeon and watch gose episodes without giving pledis a single cent. blocking a few accounts is really not that big of a deal go to pinterest if you want to look at photos or follow fanpages.

anyways.

why this sudden big rant on my Wattpad message board that I rarely use for a book I barely update?

well it's about that book.

while i have a lot of love for the members as people, them selectively choosing to speak about certain world issues and "subtly" supporting the Palestinian cause (as some armys delude themselves into thinking) and the fandom's general behaviour these days has genuinely, finally made me fall out of love with bts. yes, it took me 7 whole years since I first started stanning them to finally fall out of love. it wasn't the mediocre music by certain members or whoever they interacted bc that's their business. it was the fandom and the general silence of the boys. bighit does not have as big of an influence on them anymore and while it's easy to say "the company won't let them" it's also easy to say "jin is carrying bighit on his shoulders" or "my entrepreneurial kings" or "self producing kings". was the company not influencing them if we insinuate that BTS only have complete control over the more positive aspects of their career and the company solely gets all the blame? yes hybe/bighit has grown to become one of the most crony capitalist kpop companies I've had the misfortune of seeing (hence why being a company stan is so icky) but do the boys really only have autonomy over the good things they do rather than the really terrible/bad mistakes they make sometimes? hence why I won't be able to update the book anymore. i actually had the best forty chapters planned and was juggling with my masters and other things along with finding the spare time to write the next chapter, but alas, when you finally fall out of love with smth, you wonder if it's really all that good.

holding your faves accountable is something that we as kpop stans should've taken forward into the next generation. but no, let's do the smear campaign on the then sixteen year old girl eating a strawberry with two hands instead and defend drunk driving and insult the literal law of a country (a flawed country yes, but it's a law for a good reason).

i might return to write 9t when I've forgiven armys or the boys for their silence. but until then, I won't complete it or write any fanfiction supporting the boys. that includes the hok spin offs which idk if will ever happen or not.

i did finally finish reposting most of the stories I'm proud of on my own ao3 account seokcity. i might use it to post fanfics of other fandoms like bottoms or assassination classroom but yeah

thank you so much for listening to my long rant and coming till here for this disappointment of an announcement.

hasta la vista,
maits.
